Thoughts from watching the Olympics
I’m no expert but it really seems to me that men and women are held to such different standards in gymnastics. Like. Men are demonstrating their strength and preciseness of movement - which is totally what this sport is about from what I understand. So women have to do that as well, but on top of that they’re also expected to smile, have their hair and make-up done, so basically present well at all times, and their floor exercises are completely choreographied to music and they have to perfectly master every single ornamental movement - cause it’s not even ornamental anymore, it’s part of the rating, whereas men can just concentrate on the acrobatic sequence. And like I said, I’m by no means an expert on sports (nothing could actually be further from the truth), but this just screams double standards to me. What do you guys think?
