Omaticon 2026 Omar Bouali notes!
Omar is the Creative Director of "From the Ashes!"
He worked on Far Cry 6, and now that I know that I won't be able to unsee it.
He was already thinking of what to do next after the close of "Frontiers," and says feedback from the players is "gold."
There was a lot of close work with Lightstorm and Josh Izzo's team on how to implement aspects of the world into the game, and there's a good brand understanding.
They initially went with the first person POV for immersion, but saw feedback regarding third person and decided to implement it.
He was inspired by Neytiri's fighting in "The Way of Water," for So'lek's fighting in "From the Ashes," and there is a possibility it could come to the base game.
He saw something special in So'lek from the beginning of the game from his initial lines to Alma in the opening scene, to his deadpan "It is soundproof, Priya.." comment. He describes So'lek as "dark, mysterious, funny." (He forgot extremely sexy lol)
This is So'lek's "found family" arc
They wanted to incorporate more companions, and know how much people love their Sarentu. Naming the Sarentu gives them a more canon presence as well.
Some things did have to be cut, but it meant improving others.
They wanted everything to be cohesive with the movie, like the Windtrader gondolas.
The mo-cap used real props, like Zari's sniper rifle
They wanted to tell an emotional journey with this DLC, and described So'lek as "the perfect character" for that. The themes of grief and of letting go parallel off of "Fire and Ash."
So much talk about The Nor Scene - I haven't gotten there in game yet help I'm scard
He was asked "Is the Quaritch line at the end from pre- or post 'Fire and Ash'?" and responded "You should've asked Josh!"
What aspects of Pandora would he like to explore more? He'd love to do more with water, and hypothetically, he'd be interested in a pre-RDA Pandora.
The Fireback Mastodon was the mascot of the project. They wanted that fight to be more "Avatar," in the sense that you help the giant creature, rather than fighting him. You can also find the mastodon after the fight??
The mural by So'lek's camp has all the major moments from his comic "So'lek's Journey."
There is a patch coming soon with some feedback considerations!
