The theme of this song is ‘hanafuda’. The card game.
‘猪鹿蝶(inoshikachou)’ is the name of a hand in the game, meaning ‘boar, deer, butterflies’ as that’s. Instead they toyed with the kanjis and chose something with identical pronunciation: ‘inoshikachou’ meaning ‘boar boy the section manager’.
Koikoi (こいこい) is the term used for the ruleset when 2 people play hanafuda together. (3 people is called 花合わせ, any more is called 八八). Koi koi(来い来い) is also a phrase meaning “c’mon c’mon”.
すいまそん is a reference to the gag by the comedian Osaru. He said this in his skit when apologizing insincerely as a way of mockery.
盆☆KU☆RA (Bon☆KU☆RA) Bokura is a word which originated from hanafuda! In daily speech it means “dimwit”, while in the world of hanafuda it was ever so slightly different… Back around the 1700s and into 1800s the card game was booming as a gambling sport. There, people who made poor decisions were called bonkura. Normally this is written in katakana, yet Sekihan wrote only the ‘bon’ in kanji (盆)… I think it’s safe to assume that the reason is because he wants it to sound festive and omedetai, as ‘bon’ means the Bon Festival!
シカト(Shikato), meaning cold-shoulder, also originates from hanafuda: the October suit which features a deer with its head turned away, as if ignoring something. Etymology wise “shika” means deer and “to” means October.
ピカイチ(pika-ichi) is yet another word used in normal speech today with roots in hanafuda. meaning at a level above the rest. When 6 of the 7 best scoring ’hikari-mono’ cards are discarded, that single card will be called the pikaichi. The single best one among the rest of the other cards.
五光 also. 5 lights. It’s a point-winning group of cards. Consisting of the sakura, monk, pine, rain and paulownia cards. All Japanese beauties. 後光 read the same way also simply means halo, so I wonder if Sekihan intended for it to sound like a normal word, but then have listeners be pleasantly surprised by the reference when they read the booklet…
あかよろし is a unique phrase written on a hanafuda card. It’s archaic speech meaning “Clearly nice”.

赤飯:これは、テーマを考えているときに、花札の"猪鹿蝶"が、途中で"猪子課長"に変わった瞬間があって。 Sekihan “Back when we were in the middle of figuring out the theme, there was this moment when the ‘Boar, deer, butterflies’ of hanafuda was changed to ‘Boar Boy the Section Manager’.”
ミト充:たしかに、途中で変わりましたね(笑)。 Mito-juu: Yeah, y’all changed it in the middle (laughs).
赤飯:擬人化するんですね!? じゃあ、サラリーマンの歌にしなきゃねって、歌詞を書いてますね。サラリーマンの歌なんだけど、あくまで花札がテーマだから、花札用語や花札を語源にした言葉を入れて、ちゃんとストーリーにしようという。 Sekihan “So we’re personifying it right!? So then I gotta make this a song about a salaryman! …I said before writing the lyrics. It may be about a salaryman, but ultimately the theme is hanafuda. My main focus was on creating a story by using hanafuda terms and words rooted in hanafuda.
324:結果的にサラリーマンの哀愁を花札で読み解くみたいな歌になってるね。 324: In the end the song is like unraveling the sorrows of a business.
赤飯:そんなきれい(笑)? でもそうですね、サラリーマン・エレジーですね。冒頭の、"I just すいまそん"は、歌詞を見ずに聴くと"すいまそん"が"sing a song"に聞こえますよね。 Sekihan: It’s something so grand? (Laughs). But you’re right, it’s like a ‘salaryman elegy’. Also if you listen to the ‘I just すいまそん’ line without reading the lyrics, you’ll most likely hear it as ‘sing a song’ instead.

――ツアーは10月2日の松阪M’AXA公演から始まって、年明けまで続きましたが、赤飯さんは初日に自分がずっと苦しんでいたことに気づいて、「さみしかったよお」と泣き崩れましたよね? Tanaka Dai: The first show of your tour was at Matsusaka M’AXA on October 2nd of last year, and continued on until the next year but, I heard that you, Sekihan, had burst into tears on the very first day. You kept saying “I’ve been so lonely” upon the realization that you’d been suffering all this time.
赤飯:はい。「こういう光景を作りたいから音楽をやる、バンドをやる、ライブをやる」というのが根源にあって、そこからスタートしたんですけど、それをやれない、やっちゃいけないっていうのは「死ね」と言われているようなもんだったんです。それでも活動を続けていこうとすると気丈に振舞わなければいけないところもあって、つらい気持ちを麻痺させないと前に進めない状況がずっとあったんだと思います。それを初日にまざまざと体感したということですね。 Sekihan: Yeah. The reason I’m a musician, the reason I’m in a band, the reason I perform at all is because of the marvels made together with an audience. That’s just who I am, that’s how I got started doing what I do. So being unable to do any of that stuff; being punished for doing them, was like being told to just go “die”. Yet I still had to act strong, I had needed to constantly numb myself to my own pains in order to keep going on as a band. And only once the first show hit did I get a rude awakening, I realized what I had been making myself go through.
――コロナ禍の期間は、どんな曲を作ったらいいのかわからなくもなっていましたよね? Tanaka Dai: You had been struggling to figure out what kind of music to write back during the pandemic, correct?
ぽにきんぐだむ:そうでしたね。それに尽きると思います。やればやるほど、どこに向かってるのかわからなくなる状況でした。でも、僕はお客さんがゼロのところから音楽を始めて、「お客さんは対バン相手とその彼女、もしくは親だけ」みたいな、感じのところから始めたんです。そういうことを思い返せば、コロナの状況下でもEXシアターのライブとかであれだけのお客さんが集まってくれるのは、まだ恵まれてるのかなと思って。 Poniki: Indeed. I think that was the whole problem. The more we tried and tried to figure out what to do, the more we got lost on where we were even going. Though in my case, I started my musical career in a place with zero audience, my only spectators were the other bands I did shows with and their girlfriends, maybe my parents sometimes. So when I consider that, the fact that we got that big of a crowd at EX Theater during the pandemic situation at all, was still a blessing if you ask me.
赤飯:間違いない。 Sekihan: Definitely.
ぽにきんぐだむ:だから「夢の追いかけ直し」って思ってます。ゼロからまた追いかけ直す感じで戦ってきていますね。 Poniki: That’s why I treated it as the equivalent to starting to chase my dreams over again. I’m starting my battle over from scratch.
324:ライブのいろんなことが改善されるようになったのが、アルバムをリリースした後くらい? 324: It was only like after we released our album that we had improved a bunch of stuff with our concerts, right?
ぽにきんぐだむ:うん。そうだった。 Poniki: Yeah. That’s right.
324:ツアーの3ヶ所目くらいからは、「マスクをした状態だったら声を出してもOK」みたいな感じになってたと思う。 324: Around the 3rd show of the tour did it become okay to raise your voice during concerts as long as you had a mask on and stuff.
ぽにきんぐだむ:ライブハウス毎のルールはあったけどね。イベンターさんとかが協力してくださったおかげでできるようになったこともいろいろあったので、感謝しています。 Poniki: It differed depending on the venue though but. The event planners worked behind the scenes to give us extra liberties, and I really appreciate what they did.
――『オメでたい頭でなにより3』は、どこかほろ苦いトーンが根底にあって、ある意味、「暗いアルバム」とも言える1枚でしたが、ライブハウスでお客さんと様々な曲を共有したことで新しい意味が加わっていく感じもあったんじゃないですか? Tanaka Dai: ‘Omedetai Atama de Naniyori’ somehow had such a bittersweet tone flowing through its veins, and in a way it could be called a “dark album” but, does this mean that by sharing the songs with an audience that they gained new nuances?
ぽにきんぐだむ:「すばらしい時代」は、まさにそうでした。ツアーの後半辺りで闇から光へと変わっていく感覚があったので。 Poniki: “What a Wonderful Time!” was exactly that. During the later half of the tour I could feel the song transforming from something dark into something bright.
赤飯:たしかにそうだったな。 Sekihan: I remember that too.
――あのアルバムのインタビューの際も話しましたけど、一時はバンドが解散しかねない状況にあったじゃないですか? Tanaka Dai: I remember back when I interviewed you for the album release, you had said that the band was on the verge of disbanding, correct?
ぽにきんぐだむ:はい。僕らの中にはこの前のツアーも「これが最後だ」っていう気持ちが、どこかしらにあったんです。 Poniki: Yes. We thought that our previous tour was going to be our last, deep down we all had a feeling.
324:ツアー中もそういう気持ちがあったよね? 324: You guys felt that way throughout the whole tour too, right?
ぽにきんぐだむ:うん。覚悟を決めて回ってたので。 Poniki: Yeah. We were preparing for the end while we were touring.
324:「このツアーで見極めよう」みたいなテンションだったというか。 324: “Let’s go out with a bang” was the mentality we had I feel.
赤飯:たしかに。 Sekihan: Agreed.
324:「世の中が前に進む気配がないんだったら、これ以上はやれなくない?」みたいな。 324: “Our world doesn’t seem like it’s going anywhere, so what’s the point of pushing further, we can’t do any more than this?” kinda thing.
――ツアーの序盤辺りは、各地のファンにお別れを告げに行く感じもあったということですか? Tanaka Dai: Does that mean that you were simultaneously there to say farewell to your fans around the country?
赤飯:はい。もちろんお客さんにそんなことは言わなかったですけど、心のどこかにそういう気持ちがあったのはたしかです。 Sekihan: Yes. Of course we didn’t mention any of that to our audiences but, we definitely did feel that way deep down.
――324さんにとって、コロナ禍はどんな日々でした? Tanaka Dai: What was the pandemic like for you, 324?
324:俺は他のメンバーほどにはライブにフォーカスした想いがあるわけではなくて、どちらかというと曲を書いたり、自室で作業をしたいタイプなんです。もちろんライブは楽しいし、オメでたのライブが作る景色が見られなくなってたのは悲しかったですけど、楽曲制作にシフトチェンジする感じになってました。でも、それをバンドに昇華するのが難しくて、いろいろ大変だったのが前回のアルバムです。 324: Personally I don’t focus as hard on concerts as my other bandmates, I’m more the type to write songs, and prefer to work in the comfort of my own room. Of course concerts are tons of fun, and the idea of no longer being able to experience Omedeta concerts made me sad but, for me I was more shifting into composer mode. Though sublimating that into the band proved to be a challenge, and our previous album came with difficulties.
――コロナ禍の3年間は、試行錯誤も多かったですよね。配信で運動会もやったじゃないですか。 Tanaka Dai: The 3 years of the pandemic were full of trial and error and experimentation for you. I saw you even did a sports day on stream.
324:やりましたねえ。 324: Oh we did.
――紅白帽をかぶったり、小学生の体操服みたいなものを着ていた姿が思い出されます。 Tanaka Dai: I remember you wore the classic white and red reversible cap worn by elementary schoolers on sports days, and their exercise outfits too.
赤飯:苦肉の策でしたね(笑)。 Sekihan: It was our last ditch effort (laughs).
ぽにきんぐだむ:あの頃はまだ、コロナ禍が3ヶ月くらいで終わると思ってたんです。だからああいうバカなことがやれたんですよね。でも、それが2年、3年と続いたので、「運動会をやろう」なんて言ってられない精神状態になったんです。 Poniki: Back then we were under the assumption that the pandemic would end after like 3 months. That’s why we were easygoing enough to propose ridiculous antics. Yet after 2, 3 years we no longer had the mental fortitude to do things like sports days anymore.
赤飯:最初の配信ライブの頃も、既に精神的に喰らってるものがあったけど。 Sekihan: Our mental fortitude wasn’t doing too hot back when we did our first live concert stream either though.
ぽにきんぐだむ:ツアーも中止になってたからね。 Poniki: Ever since our tour got canceled midway.
赤飯:うん。それで「配信でもライブできるやん」みたいな形でやってみたんですけど、やっぱりお客さんが目の前にいてなんぼだって改めて認識したんです。それによって虚無になりました。配信ライブ自体を否定はしないけど。 Sekihan: Yeah. That’s why we thought that doing concerts on stream instead would save the day, but it just made me realize how concerts are only special for me because there’s an audience in front of me. It just made me feel empty. I’m not knocking concert streams though.
ぽにきんぐだむ:そういうことを経て、制約がある中でライブをやれるようになったわけですけど、余裕のあるスペースでゆっくり観られる楽しさを感じるようになった人もいたと思うんです。だから今後、コロナ前の感じにそのまますぐに戻るというのはないだろうし、それを全否定する気持ちもないんですけど。 Poniki: We overcame all those obstacles, and managed to figure out how to do concerts despite the restrictions. I think there’s quite a lot of people who came to enjoy the roominess and the fact that you could relax and enjoy the show. So going forward, I don’t think we can simply just go back to the way things were before the pandemic, and I have no desire to knock all of that either.
赤飯:ただ、うちらが根源に持ってるもの、作りたい光景は、これからも変わらないんですよね。 Sekihan: The only thing is that the principles at our roots, and the types of environments we want to cultivate, will never change.
――今年の4月4日に新宿ロフトで開催した『大寿祭』は、「新しいライブハウスのあり方をゼロから改めて作っていこう」という主旨でしたよね? Tanaka Dai: The purpose of the Dai Kotobuki Matsuri you held at Shinjuku Loft on April 4th of this year was “To recreate the state of livehouses anew,” right?
ぽにきんぐだむ:はい。ライブハウス、我々、お客さんが離れてたのを、改めて近づけたいという気持ちで始めたイベントですね。 Poniki: Yes. Livehouses; the place we, and concertgoers both, had stepped away from. We wanted to urge people to come back with this.
――新宿ロフトで開催した『大寿祭』は、赤飯さんがフロアに降りてお客さんにもみくちゃにされる――というコロナ前のライブでは恒例になっていたことが久しぶりに解禁された日でもありました。 Tanaka Dai: At that same concert in Shinjuku Loft did Sekihan jump down onto the floor and get squashed up by the crowd— This was standard for you before the pandemic, yet this show was the first time in a long time. The restrictions were lifted.
赤飯:約3年ぶりでしたね。ある種、原点回帰みたいなことでもあったのかもしれないです。「自分たちの本質は何なのか?」っていうのを改めて見つめ直す機会にもなったんだと思います。 Sekihan: It was my first time in about 3 years. In a sense it was like returning to my roots. It was an opportunity for me to reevaluate what my core values are.
ぽにきんぐだむ:『大寿祭』はメンバーのゆかりの地のライブハウスが会場だったり、誰かの生誕祭だったりもして、やりたい曲を誕生日を迎えるメンバーが決めたりしています。いろいろな特別感を盛り込んでいますね。 Poniki: For the Dai Kotobuki Matsuri we chose livehouses of which we each had deep connections to, we did shows on our birthdays, we had the man of the moment decide on which songs he wanted to do, and threw a party. We tried to make the shows special.
――レア曲を聴けるライブにもなっているんですね? Tanaka Dai: Does that mean the audience had the chance to hear more rare songs?
324:はい。「やってない曲」は、「やりたくない曲」っていう場合もあるでしょうけど(笑)。 324: Yes. Though a lot of the songs we don’t do are because we don’t want to do them (laughs).
ぽにきんぐだむ:他のメンバーがやりたがらなくても、誰か1人がやりたい曲もあると思うので(笑)。セットリストを任せると、そういう曲が入ってきたりするのが面白いです。 Poniki: Even if there’s some of us who are reluctant, there’s songs that at least one of us wants to do so (laugh). It’s fun seeing how songs will come and go when each of us gets to decide on our own setlist.
赤飯:レア曲とかもやりつつ、満員のライブハウスで「ほんとに好きでしょうがねえんだよ!」っていう気持ちをぶつけ合える場所になってるのが『大寿祭』ですね。 Sekihan: Our Dai Kotobuki Matsuri is all about venting our feelings of love in a jam packed livehouse, making everyone go “I can’t help but freaking love it here!” The rare songs are a bonus.
――お客さんとオメでたがお互いに間近で向き合える規模のライブハウスで開催されているので、チケットをとるのが大変ですけど、その点に関して何か言っておきたいことは? Tanaka Dai: Due to the fact that you opt for venues which allow for you to get up close and personal with your audience, it means that the tickets are all that more limited. Do you have any comments to offer in that regard?
赤飯:それに関しては、ごめんなさい(笑)。 Sekihan: In regards to that topic.. Just, I’m sorry(laughs).
――(笑)。いろんな面で、種を改めて蒔いている2023年ということですかね? Tanaka Dai: (Laughs). So your 2023 has been all about replanting yourselves then?
赤飯:本当にその通りです。もう1回やり直してる感じなので。 Sekihan: That’s exactly it. It’s kinda like we’re getting a redo.
――フロアで盛り上がっているお客さんを見て、324さんはどんなことを感じています? Tanaka Dai: How do you feel, 324, when you see the crowds all pumped up?
324:俺はあんまり前が見えてないんです(笑)。最前周辺の人たちがぼんやりと見えるだけなので。 324: I don’t really glance forwards all that much (laughs). I can only really vaguely make out the people in the front row when I’m up on stage.
――ライブ中は、サングラスを着用しているから? Tanaka Dai: Is this because you wear sunglasses during concerts?
324:はい。それもあって変化を感じにくくて、コロナ禍を乗り越えられたというのもあるのかもしれない(笑)。 324: Yes. That’s one of the reasons why I don’t really feel the changes too much, and maybe one of the reasons why I was able to get through the pandemic (laughs).
――つまり、オメでたが今後、武道館でライブをする際も「ライブハウス武道館へようこそー!」と、ガチの実感として言えるということですね? Tanaka Dai: So one day when you perform at Budoukan, the quote “Welcome to the live house Budoukan!*” will really hit the nail on head for you? *("Welcome to the live house Budoukan" is a famous quote from Himuro Kyosuke. Budoukan is technically not a livehouse, livehouses are typically small venues with a more tight bond between the audience and the performers. Yet Himuro went in with the attitude that even a giant venue can feel like a livehouse if everyone puts their heart to it.)
324:そういうことになります(笑)。 324: That’s how it’s going to go (laughs).
――(笑)。ライブハウスで存分に盛り上がれる状況が戻りつつある中で配信リリースされるのが、今回の新曲「着火繚乱ビンビンビン」ということですね。 Tanaka Dai: (Laughs). Now that livehouses and the concert scene are getting back on their feet, you released the song “Neppa Mappa” on streaming services.
ぽにきんぐだむ:はい。コロナ禍では絶対に生まれない曲ですね。ライブで思いっきり楽しめないのにこれを作ったら、悲しくなるだけなので。 Poniki: Yeah. This song would’ve never been possible for us to make during the pandemic. It’d just make us sad to make this but then be unable to perform it live.
赤飯:「なんでこれ作った?」ってなりますよね。 Sekihan: We’d just be like “What the hell did we even make this for?”
324:この曲は、紆余曲折があったんですけど。 324: This song went through a lot of twists and turns though.
ぽにきんぐだむ:もともとは提供する予定の曲だったんです。それがいろいろな事情でなしになりまして。作った時点で「この曲、めちゃくちゃいいな」ってなってたので、「自分たちの曲としてもう一度生まれ変わらせよう」ということになりました。 Poniki: It was originally going to be a song written for something else, but after a lot of stuff happened did that change. While we were making it we were like “This song is really good”, and thus decided to recreate into our own song instead.
――歌詞は、書き直したんですか? Tanaka Dai: Did you rewrite the lyrics then?
ぽにきんぐだむ:いや。ほぼもともとの歌詞と一緒です。 Poniki: Nope. The lyrics are almost exactly the same as what they were originally were.
324:歌詞とメロディに関しては、「これはめっちゃいいじゃん!」ってなってたので、勝ち馬に乗るような気分で好き勝手に楽しくできました。 324: The lyrics and melody were just too good, I felt like I was already riding on a winning horse, so I just had fun doing whatever I wanted with it. *
――方向性に関して、何か決めていたことはありました? Tanaka Dai: Did you have a set direction in which you took the song in?
324:「この曲で一番大事にしたいのは、キャッチーにすること」という目標を最初に決めました。「オメでたが持ってるいろいろな要素をキャッチーにまとめる」という目標をみんなで共有したので、聴きやすいけど自分たちの色も出たと思います。 324: I decided from the start that most important thing with this song was to make sure it was catchy. We decided as a group that the goal was “To take all of Omedeta’s substance and essence and mash it all up into something catchy” so, it may be easy on the ears but it’s still full of the things that make it us.
――ライブハウスでお客さんと盛り上がっている風景が浮かぶ曲です。《熱波 熱波 熱波 熱波 波!》とか歌っていますが、赤飯さんはライブハウスの熱波師? Tanaka Dai: I can already imagine the audience going crazy when you do this song live. The lyrics go “Neppa neppa neppa neppa ha!”*, so does that mean you, Sekihan, are live the Sauna Meister (Neppa-shi) of the livehouse?
赤飯:熱波師というより、サウナストーンかも(笑)。でも、お客さんもサウナストーンみたいな感じだからな。サウナの曲って言ってるわけでもないけど、サウナ感はあるんですよね。でも、これは恋愛の曲なので。 Sekihan: Rather than a Sauna Meister, I’m more like a sauna rock (laughs). Though, the audience are kinda like sauna rocks too so. It’s not supposed to be a sauna song, but it has sauna vibes to it. Though it is actually a love song.
324:サウナがめっちゃ好きだから、サウナにはまった頃から「サウナの曲を書こうよ」ってずっと俺は提案していたんです。でも、「書かない」って言ってましたね。 324: We love saunas and, ever since we got hooked on them I’ve been saying that we should write a sauna song. But he’s always saying that he can’t.
ぽにきんぐだむ:書かない明確な理由があったんです。僕もサウナが大好きですけど、サウナの曲は求めていないんですよね。 Poniki: There’s been a reason for that though. I too love saunas but, nobody actually wants to hear a song about saunas.
324:だから「サウナをお勧めする曲はどう?」とかも言ったんですけど、それもしっくりこないみたいで。サウナの曲が求められてないっていうのは、僕もすぐに気づきました。流行ってるからサウナをモチーフにした曲は結構世に出てるけど、知れ渡った曲はないので。 324: That’s why I suggested “What about a song that tells people about the appeal of the sauna?” but that didn’t do the trick either. I too quickly learned about how sauna songs are undesirable. A lot of songs using saunas as a motif because it was trendy have been released into the world, but there’s no song that’s actually taken off.
赤飯:誰もサウナ大喜利を求めてないっていうこと。 Sekihan: Nobody’s interested in any sauna oogiri.
ぽにきんぐだむ:どこにも刺さらない曲になるのがわかってたんです。 Poniki: We knew that a song like that wouldn’t click with anybody.
324:だから「着火繚乱ビンビンビン」みたいな「サウナをちょっと連想させる」っていうくらいが丁度いいんだと思います。 324: So the level of Neppa Mappa, that only brings saunas to mind a little, was the perfect amount.
ぽにきんぐだむ:「スーパー銭湯〜オメの湯〜」のさじ加減が丁度良かったというのがあったので、あの感じを振り返ったんですよね。あの曲はお風呂屋さんとフロアを掛けて、熱湯がライブハウスのイメージと重なったりもしたので。 Poniki: The tactfulness of “Super Bathhouse ~Ome Waters~” was perfect too, so we used that for reference. That song availed a pun on the word "furou-san(bathhouse)" and the "floor(furoa)" of a concert and how the livehouse is like a pool of boiling hot water and stuff.
――「着火繚乱ビンビンビン」は、「恋愛」「ライブハウスが盛り上がる様子」「隠し味のサウナ」の融合系なのかなと思います。 So it sounds like Neppa Mappa is a mix of “Love”, “Getting the venue all pumped up” and “The secret ingredient: the sauna.”
赤飯:あっ、なるほど。これライブハウスのことや。たしかに! Sekihan: Ah, you’re so right. It’s about livehouses. I see it now!
324:歌詞を書いておきながら、なに感心してるの?(笑)。 324: You’re the one who wrote the lyrics, why are you the one getting all impressed? (Laughs).
赤飯:ほんとだ! びっくりした! ライブハウスだ! わりと恋愛のイメージで書いたんやけど、捉え方の多様性がある! 素晴らしい! Sekihan: But they’re so right! I’m dumbstruck! It really is about livehouses! I had really intended to make it a love song, but there’s so many different ways to look at it! This is incredible!
ぽにきんぐだむ:「スーパー銭湯〜オメの湯〜2」を作るような意識があったから、ライブハウスの感じが入ったっていうのもあるんだろうね。 Poniki: We kind of had the idea of a “Super Bathhouse ~Ome Waters~ 2” in our minds, so maybe the idea of livehouses just subconsciously snuck in there.
324:歌詞を書いてた時、そういうこと話してたよ。 324: We did talk about that while writing the lyrics.
赤飯:ライブハウスって? Sekihan: About livehouses?
324:うん。 324: Yeah.
赤飯:全く覚えてない(笑)。 Sekihan: I don’t remember that at all (laughs).
324:あと、男根の曲でもあるよね? 324: It’s also a song about penises, right?
赤飯:うん。男根のメタファーも入ってる。まあ、こういう「裸であろうぜ!」っていうのは「ピュアであろうぜ!」っていうことでもあるので。 Sekihan: Yeah. There’s a metaphor for the penis in there. The whole “Let’s be naked!” thing also simultaneously means “Let’s be pure!” so.
――何を表現したとしてもエッチな何かが滲み出てしまうのは、オメでたの宿命だと思います。 Tanaka Dai: Even when you may express yourselves properly, Omedeta songs are always destined to have something perverted seep in.
ぽにきんぐだむ:そういうことをやらないと気が済まないんです。 Poniki: We don’t feel complete unless we do something like that.
324:下ネタは、めっちゃ好きだよね? 俺もめっちゃ好きだし。 324: Who doesn’t love dirty jokes? I love dirty jokes.
赤飯:うん。そういうのが自然に出てくるっていうのは、それがバンドのポテンシャルとしてあるってこと。それが得意なんだから、武器をブンブン振り回すのは大事。つまり、これが俺たちの土俵なんです。 Sekihan: Yeah. The fact that dirty jokes come to us so naturally is part of the potential of this band. It’s our forte, so it’s good to swing our weapon around. It’s like this is our wrestling ring.
――ミト充さんとmaoさんの下ネタに対するスタンスは、どうなんですか? Tanaka Dai: What are Mito-juu and mao’s stance on the dirty jokes?
赤飯:maoは、ムッツリです! Sekihan: mao is a closet perv!
ぽにきんぐだむ:彼は別方向で、めっちゃエッチなので。我々はエッチなのを積極的にひけらかすタイプということです。 Poniki: He’s really perverted, just in a different way from us. We’re the type to openly parade our pervertedness.
324:ミト充もエッチだし、オメでたはみんなエッチです。 324: Mito-juu is pervy too, all of us from Omedeta are pervy.
――エッチな部分をきちんと香らせていることも含めてですが、オメでたらしい歌詞の表現がいろいろ散りばめられていますね。例えば《へい らっしゃい》は「きなしゃんせ。」の歌詞でも出てきたじゃないですか? Tanaka Dai: It has your usual dirty nuances neatly tucked in there, plus with Omedeta-style references scattered throughout. Such as how the lyric “Hey, come on down", had also appeared in your song "Kinashanse".
赤飯:ああ、なるほど。 Sekihan: Ahh, you've got a point there.
ぽにきんぐだむ:「スシ食いねェ!」(シブがき隊の曲。1986年リリース)を意識してたんですよ。そこから出てきた言葉が嵌ったということだった思います。 Poniki: We had "Oh! Sushi! (The song by Shibugaki-tai, released in 1986)" in mind for that. The quote from that song just fits like a glove.
赤飯:意図せず「きなしゃんせ。」と被ったっていうことですね。でも、同じ言葉でも雰囲気が違いますね。アルバムを作ってた頃から時間が経って、《へい らっしゃい》の響きが変化したのも前向きに捉えてもらえるんやったら、それはハッピーなことだと思います。 Sekihan: So it unintentionally overlapped with "Kinashanse." Though the same words carry a whole different energy this time around. After our long journey, the nuance of the words "Hey, come on down" have now turned into something optimistic. It's a happy thing now.
――あと、この曲に関してやはり指摘しておきたいのは……曲中で何回か射精しているニュアンスを感じるという点です。《最初は半信半疑でした》という語りの直前は、まさにそういうポイントなのでは? Tanaka Dai: Also, I can't ignore the elephant in the room…. 赤飯:嘘や!(笑)。 Sekihan: No way! (Laughs).
ぽにきんぐだむ:そこの部分の「あああー!」は、僕の家にあるサウナのサウナストーンにロウリュウをして、それをマイクで録ってサンプリングした音を入れてます。――《そうこれはただの汗なんかじゃない 心の 心の涙なんだ!》も印象的な表現です。「涙は心の汗なんだ」みたいなことはよく言いますが。 Poniki: That "Aaah~!" there was from when I poured hot water over the sauna rocks in my sauna, and sampled it with a microphone. The lyric “This isn’t just any old sweat - These- these are the tears of my heart!” too left quite an impression on me. “Tears are the sweat of the heart” is a common phrase(In Japanese) so.
324:最初は《涙は心の汗なんだ》だったんですけど、「サウナに入ってる時は逆じゃない?」って俺が言ったんです。サウナは汗が出てるのが普通だから。 324: The lyrics were about tears being the sweat of the heart at first, but then I was the one who mentioned “But isn’t it the opposite when we’re talking about saunas?”. Because sweating is normal when you’re in the sauna.
赤飯:サウナは内側にあるドロドロしたものを出していくから、《心の涙なんだ!》は、言い得て妙だと思いました。 Sekihan: Saunas help you release all the grime and bad stuff from deep within your body, so “These are the tears of my heart!” worked perfectly.
ぽにきんぐだむ:ととのうと感動するからね? Poniki: Because once your circulation starts accelerating, it really tugs at your heart strings, eh?
赤飯:うん。サウナでは、ガチで泣きます。気持ちよ過ぎて。 Sekihan: Yeah. I seriously just burst into tears at the sauna. It just feels too good.
324:サウナと言えば好きなエピソードがあって。ミトさんがサウナに入ってたら、「刺青を入れた人がいる」っていう通報を受けたスタッフさんが来たけど、それっぽい風貌の人はミトさんしかいなくて。でも、ミトさんは刺青を入れていないんですよ。 324: All this talk about saunas reminds me of this one funny story. Our Mito-juu had just innocently entered a sauna, but then an employee came in on the behest of a report that “There’s someone with a tattoo inside”. The only person in there who matched that appearance was Mito-juu, yet he doesn’t have any tattoos.
ぽにきんぐだむ:入れてる風だから疑われたらしいです。 Poniki: He looks like the kinda guy who would have one, so I guess somebody got suspicious.
赤飯:スタッフさんにロックオンされたけど、入れてないから、疑いの眼差しで通り過ぎてサウナの外に出ていく……というコントみたいなことがありました(笑)。 Sekihan: The employees locked on to him but like, he doesn’t have any, so they just eyed him suspiciously as they walked around and out. It was like a comic skit (laughs).
――(笑)。思いっきり盛り上がれて、思いっきり踊れて、思いっきり叫べる仕上がりになった「着火繚乱ビンビンビン」は、やりたいことを全開で形にできた手応えがあるんじゃないですか? Tanaka Dai: (Laughs). You hyped the crowds up like mad, danced like mad, screamed like mad, and so was Neppa Mappa born. So do you feel as if you did exactly what you wanted to do with the song, and did it all the way through?
ぽにきんぐだむ:はい。今、めっちゃ曲作りがスムーズなんですよね。 Poniki: Yes. Our song writing has been proceeding super smoothly these days.
324:「着火繚乱ビンビンビン」に辿り着くまでには、いろいろあったんですけど。ツアーが終って「曲作ろうぜ」なってからすぐにスムーズになったわけでもなくて。その時期は楽曲提供のお話をいくつか頂いたんです。「オメでたらしい曲をお願いします」と。俺らには「こういうのがオメでたらしい」っていうような自覚があったわけではないんですけど、「鯛獲る」みたいに派手で、お祭りっぽくて、和っぽい要素があるものを求められたんですよね。俺らに対して持たれてるパブリックイメージってそれなんだとわかって、それが良さでもあると改めてわかったので、「らしさ」を出した上で研ぎ澄ませてやっていくことになりました。だから楽曲提供のお話に助けられた感じがあったよね? 324: Though a lot of stuff happened before we finally arrived at Neppa Mappa. It’s not as if it was all smooth sailing as soon as we decided to start making songs again after our tour ended. It was then that we had received a number of commissions from companies. They asked us for an “An Omedeta-style song”. Yet we never had any awareness as to what that even meant, until they told us that they wanted “Something flashy, festival-y, and oriental Japanese style, like Tai-toru.” It made us realize what our public image is like, and it helped us understand where our strengths lie, so all that was left was for us to whet our weapons. That commission was actually our saving grace in a way, wasn’t it?
ぽにきんぐだむ:うん。オファーを頂いて本当に良かったと思う。 Poniki: Yeah. We were so lucky we got that offer.
――バンド活動を重ねる中で、楽曲制作集団として評価されるようにもなっているということなのかも。 Tanaka Dai: Maybe after operating as a band for so long and hard, you’ve come to be respected as a group of composers.
ぽにきんぐだむ:どうなんですかね? でも、楽曲提供のオファーがあるというのは、求められてるものがあるっていうことですよね。そういうイメージみたいなものがあるって再認識しました。 Poniki: Maybe? Though the fact that we’re receiving offers at all means that we possess something desirable. So we were able to reassess what that is, and how people see us.
――例えば昭和的な香りは、「オメでたらしさ」みたいなイメージの1つでしょうね。 Tanaka Dai: I’d imagine a dash of Showa elements is one of the things that define Omedetai as well.
ぽにきんぐだむ:歌謡曲寄りっていうことだよね? Poniki: You mean how we’ve got kayokyoku stuff going on, right?
324:うん。歌謡メロ。赤飯の歌謡メロの歌い回しがすごく好きだから。「着火繚乱ビンビンビン」も、歌謡メロっぽいしね。 324: Yeah. Kayokyoku style melodies. I just really love the way Sekihan sings them. 'Neppa Meppa' too kinda has a kayokyoku kind of melody.
――赤飯さんは、歌の随所でこぶしが回る瞬間もありますよね? Tanaka Dai: I know that he employs melisma all over the place when he sings too, correct?
赤飯:演歌も好きですからね。おばあちゃん子なんで。 Sekihan: Well, ‘cause I’m a fan of enka too. I’m a grandma’s boy so.
324:ビブラートの下の震わせ方とか、演歌のこぶしの感じだと思う。敢えてやってるでしょ? 324: The way he quivers his voice underneath the vibrato and such is reminiscent of kobushi in enka, I think. You did that on purpose, yeah?
赤飯:うん。普段はやらないんだけど。 Sekihan: Yeah. It’s not something I do often either.
ぽにきんぐだむ:洋というより和のビブラートだよね。 Poniki: It’s more of an oriental style vibrato rather than a western style one.
赤飯:やっぱりそういうのがあるので、そっちを活かして戦った方がいいんですよ。 Sekihan: It’s something special that I can do, so I realized that I should make the most of it and fight my battles with it too.
――パーティーミュージックとしてのテイストも、祭囃子の感じがどことなくあるように思います。雰囲気がカーニバルとかではないんですよね。あと、初めて聴いてもすぐに参加できて楽しめるようにもしていますよね? Tanaka Dai: I feel like your specific approach to party music somehow emits the essence of matsuri-bayashi. Because the atmosphere you set is not that of a carnival. You also purposefully write songs in a way that even if it’s someone’s first time hearing it live, they could easily participate in it.
赤飯:はい。それを最近の我々は意識しています。とにかくわかりやすくて、初めて聴いた人も一瞬で参加できちゃうようなものでありたいです。 Sekihan: Yes. And recently we’ve been conscious of that. We strive to keep our songs easy to catch on to, so that even first time listeners could instantaneously hop right in.
――「乾杯トゥモロー」も、まさにそうでしたよね? Tanaka Dai: ‘Kanpai Tomorrow’ fit that bill perfectly, right?
赤飯:はい。 Sekihan: Yes.
――普段の生活では叫ぶのが恥ずかしい言葉を思いっきり叫んでもらいたいというのもあるでしょ? Tanaka Dai: You want people to belch out words that would normally be much too embarrassing go say out loud.
赤飯:もちろん(笑)。今回の曲だったら《ビンビンビン》とか。 Sekihan: Oh definitely (laughs). The “Bin bin bin” part of our new song is just another example.
――《すっぽんぽん》も、叫ぶと気持ちいい言葉です。いつか裸がドレスコードの裸限定GIGとかやれたら楽しいでしょうね。 Tanaka Dai: “Supponpon [Bare as babes]” is a fun word to shout out loud as well. It’d be funny if you did a gig with a naked dress code one day.
324:裸OKのライブハウスってあるんですかね? 324: Are there any livehouses that allow people to go naked though?
――上半身裸くらいまでは大丈夫かもしれないですけど、全裸は駄目でしょうね。 Tanaka Dai: I’m sure being naked from the top up would be okay in places, but completely naked may be impossible.
赤飯:ヌーディストフロアってこと? Sekihan: Like a nudist dance floor?
324:汗だくの男がサーフで転がってきたりもするんだよ。「こいつ、足が3本あるぞ!」みたいな。 324: What if a dude dripping in sweat toppled over while he was crowd surfing. Like “Wow, that guy down there has 3 legs!”

赤飯:まあ、普通の服装でも、ライブハウスはどこかエッチなんですよ。エクスタシーを感じる場所だから。 Sekihan: But well, even when you’re wearing basic clothes livehouses are still horny in a way. Because it’s a place where you go to feel ecstasy.
――「着火繚乱ビンビンビン」は、そういう雰囲気を含みつつ、赤飯さんの歌唱力も思いっきり発揮されていますね。終盤のスクリームは、限界突破しているじゃないですか。 Tanaka Dai: 'Neppa Mappa' brings the essence of that stuff to the table, while also spotlighting the sheer power of Sekihan’s voice. The scream in the outro sounds like you’re pushing yourself to your absolute limits.
赤飯:でしょ? 長かったっけ? Sekihan: I know, right? It’s even a long scream too, no, I forget?
324:長い。 324: It’s long.
赤飯:長いシャウトをするとかっこいいと思い込んでいるんで。チェスター(チェスター・ベニントン/リンキン・パークのボーカリスト)の影響です。 Sekihan: I’ve the idea in my head that long screams are awesome. I’ve been influenced by Chester (Chester Bennington/ the vocalist of Linkin Park).
ぽにきんぐだむ:できる人は、そうそうはいないですからね。 Poniki: It’s not a feat many people are capable after all.
赤飯:やれることはやっていくという姿勢です。 Sekihan: I'm just doing what I can do. That's our stance now.
――赤飯さんは女声も含めて、多彩な声色で歌えるボーカリストでもありますからね。 Tanaka Dai: You can sing in a feminine voice as well, a true vocalist, capable of a variety of different tones.
赤飯:わしなんてけれんみの塊やと最近思ってるんですよ。だからけれんみのある自分をメンバーに料理してもらうのが一番いいのかなと。そういう体制が整ってきているので。 Sekihan: I’ve been thinking recently about how I’m the epitome of the term “playing to the audience”. And as I’m such a bluffer guy like that, I think it’s probably best if my bandmates cook for me. So we’ve kinda been rebuilding the structure of our band. *
――歌い手の赤飯さんのバックバンドの「赤飯バンド」から始まったオメでたですし、その原点に改めて立ち還っている感じですかね? Tanaka Dai: Omedetai originally stemmed from your backing band "Sekihan Band" from back when you were an Utaite, so are you returning to those roots?
赤飯:そうですね。でも、わしを料理してもらうだけではいけないって気づいてきたこの数年間でもあるんです。自分は「このメッセージをゼロから形にして」っていうよりも「けれんみ装置」。そういう装置として機能する自分に喜びを覚えるところがあるので、曲の本質や伝えたいメッセージみたいなところに関しては、こいつ(324)なんですよね。彼の持ち味、文章やレトリックの妙とかはオメでたの武器なんです。でも、「それだけだと」というのがあるので、自分のけれんみが加わることによってオメでたになっていったら素晴らしいなと思ってます。な? 合ってる? Sekihan: That's it. Though, over the years I've come to understand that just cooking me up “isn't enough” either. Rather than being the guy that "Articulates a message from scratch" I'm more of the "Audience pleaser machine". And I’m happy that I can operate as such, so when it comes down to the messages we want to send and the essence of our songs, it’s all up to this guy here (324). His knack for words and rhetoric are one of Omedetai’s greatest weapons. Yet that alone “isn’t enough”, same as with me. So when paired with my audience pleaser aspects, do we create Omedetai. Or at least I hope so, I think that would be wonderful. Right? Am I getting this right?
324:うん。まあ、それぞれの役割があるよね。 324: Yeah. Well, we all each have our own role.
ぽにきんぐだむ:ようやくそれぞれの役割分担みたいなことが、上手く回り始めたんだと思います。「着火繚乱ビンビンビン」は、振り付けとか一緒に楽しめるギミックも盛り込んでるので、ライブハウスでお客さんと楽しみたいですね。もうライブでやってるんですけど。 Poniki: We’re finally figuring out how best to allot our roles, and it’s all coming together I think. We incorporated choreography and fun collaborative gimmicks into 'Neppa Meppa' too, so I hope that it’ll be fun for both us and the audiences when we perform. We’ve already done it live a few times already but.
赤飯:やり始めて数回で既に完成してるな? Sekihan: We’ve only done it a few times now but it already feels pretty complete, eh?
ぽにきんぐだむ:うん。 Poniki: Yeah.
赤飯:ライブキッズあるあるも、「新曲、めちゃくちゃいいですね」って言ってたよ。 Sekihan: ‘Live Kids Aruaru’ had even said our new song is really good.
324:たしかVOI SQUARE CATのメンバーだったと思うけど、この曲をめっちゃ褒めてくれたよね? 「やばいっす! 非の打ちどころがないっす!」って。 324: I remember a member of VOI SQUARE CAT praising the song like mad as well? They were like “This is crazy! I can’t find anything bad about it anywhere!”
赤飯:「そんなに⁉」って思ってびっくりしたけど(笑)。 Sekihan: I remember being surprised and thinking “Wait, you like it that much!?” though (laughs).
ぽにきんぐだむ:でも、嬉しかった。 Poniki: But it was indeed a joyous thing.
――ライブハウスが好きな人がワクワクする要素が詰まっているから、そういう反応があるんでしょうね。 Tanaka Dai: It’s chockful of elements that are bound to excite anybody who loves livehouses so, I’d imagine the reactions are great.
ぽにきんぐだむ:やっぱり3年間、なかなか思いっきりライブをすることができなくて、やりたいことをやらせてもらえなくて、やっとできるようになったから、やりたいことを曲に自然と詰め込んだということなんでしょうね。 Poniki: For three whole years we were unable to do full blown ideal concerts, we couldn’t do the things we wanted to do, but now we finally can. So naturally all the things we’ve wanted to do for so long have been stuffed into the song.
324:それがライブハウスに来るお客さんの「フラストレーションを発散したい」という需要とマッチしてたら嬉しいです。 324: Here’s hoping that matches up with our audience’s demand to have a place to vent their frustrations.
――今回の曲に関していろいろ語っていただきましたが、何か他に付け加えたいことはありますか? Tanaka Dai: We’ve had a fruitful discussion about your new song, but is there anything else you would like to add?
ぽにきんぐだむ:「スーパー銭湯〜オメの湯〜2」というイメージがあったので、あのMVに出てくれた清水あいりさんが、今回のMVのメインキャストです。4、5年ぶりだと思うんですけど、それもエモかったです。曲への愛着がより湧きました。MVもぜひ観ていただきたいですね。 Poniki: We had the concept of ‘Super Bathhouse ~Ome Waters~ 2‘ in mind for it, so that’s why we called Shimizu Airi to be in the main cast of the music video again. It was all pretty emotional because it’s been 4, almost 5 years since the original MV. It made me feel extra love and attachment towards the song. I’d love if everyone out there could watch the MV.
――バンド内の役割分担がスムーズに回るようになっていると先ほどおっしゃっていましたが、新曲の制作もどんどん進めている状況ですか? Tanaka Dai: Earlier you had mentioned that you’ve discovered how to smoothly allocate each of your roles within the band, but does that mean that it’s facilitating your writing of new songs?
赤飯:はい。ばんばんやってます。今までで一番健全じゃない? Sekihan: Yes. We’re chugging away. It’s the healthiest it’s ever been, I’d say?
ぽにきんぐだむ:うん。むっちゃスピード感があるし。 Poniki: Yeah. I can feel just how swift we’ve gotten.
324:手応えのある曲が揃ってきているから、そろそろ自由に作るフェイズに入ってもいいくらいになってきています。もちろん失敗もありますけどね。出来上がってレコーディングをする段階になって、「違くね?」ってなることもあるので。とはいえ、しっかりといろいろ進んでいますね。個人的にもここ3年くらいの間で考えてたことを形にできているので、ネタ切れ感がなくて、逆にどんどん湧いています。 324: We’ve been putting together quite the lineup of impactful songs so, I'm thinking that we may have reached the point wherein we can start writing freely now. Naturally that involves failure too but that's fine too. We'll finish a song, reach the recording phase, to then end up like "This isn't what we were going for, this isn't right". Nevertheless things are proceeding smoothly. Personally I too have had a lot of ideas these past 3 years which I’m at long last able to conceive, so I’m not running out of ideas at all, it’s quite the opposite, I’m pumping them out.
――「着火繚乱ビンビンビン」をリリースした後は、渋谷スターラウンジで『大寿祭・赤飯生誕』、大阪ANIMAと名古屋シャングリラ『大寿祭』、下北沢シャングリラで『大寿祭・結成7周年』……8月は『大寿祭』の連続です。 Tanaka Dai: Since releasing ‘Neppa Mappa’ you’ve held “Dai Kotobuki Matsuri~Sekihan’s Birthday” at Shibuya Star Lounge, held another 2 “Dai Kotobuki Matsuri” at both Oosaka Anima and Nagoya Shangri-la, then another “Dai Kotobuki Matsuri~Celebrating our 7th Year Anniversary”….. Your August has been a string of Dai Kotobuki Matsuri.
赤飯:こうやってスケジュールを見ると、すごいことになってますね。 Sekihan: Looking at the schedule like this makes me realize just how crazy it’s been.
ぽにきんぐだむ:結成7周年ですけど、コロナの3年間があったから、4年くらいしか活動していない感覚なんですよね。 Poniki: We’ve been a band for 7 years but 3 of them were during the pandemic so, it feels like we’ve been active for only 4 years.
赤飯:でも、そういうコロナ禍の中でアルバムを出せたのは、良かったと思う。ある種、ピュアというか。悩んでる部分、葛藤とかもちゃんと形にして出せたのは、ありがたかった。 Sekihan: The fact that we were able to come out with an album [Ome Street*] during the pandemic was a indeed good thing though. It was pure in a way. All of our stress and conflicts materialized into that piece, and for that I was grateful.
324:リリースした頃にも話してたことですけど、ああいうアルバムがなかったら、その先でふざけられなかったと思う。自分たちの考えてること、感じてることを表現しておかないと、前に進むことができなかったです。あのアルバムがあって、ツアーをやって、光明が見えたっていう過程を経て、ようやく「こんな曲を出してもいいじゃん?」ってなったんだと思う。 324: We had mentioned this before but, if we had never released that album, we would’ve never been able to have fun and enjoy ourselves as we are now. If we had never expressed our thoughts and feelings, then we would’ve never been able to move on. We made that album, we went on a tour, we saw the light and got through it all, and then finally did we reach the point where we were able to say “Isn’t now the time to put out a song like this [Neppa Mappa]?”.
赤飯:いろんな断捨離ができたってことだよね? Sekihan: We managed to declutter up a lot, right?
324:うん。 324: Yeah.
赤飯:断捨離をした結果、「結局、あるものでしか戦えない」ってなったんだと思う。 Sekihan: As a result of our decluttering, did we learn that can only have a few specific things we can use to fight our battles with.
――コロナ禍なんてなかった方が良かったに決まっていますが、あの時期をマイナスのまま過ごすのではなくて、プラスに転じて未来に繋げられたということですね? Tanaka Dai: Of course everything would’ve been better if the pandemic had never happened but, it seems you didn’t spend that time lost in the lows, but you turned it into a positive and shaped your own future?
ぽにきんぐだむ:そういうことです。だから今回の曲を聴いてもらったら、「帰ってきた!」と感じてもらえると思います。「自由な我々を楽しんでください」っていう感じですかね? Poniki: That’s right. When people hear our new song I can imagine them saying “Omdetai are back!”. Like “We’re wild and free, so have some fun.”
赤飯:うん。「底抜けに自由で」って、オメでたの最初の頃から掲げてたことなんです。改めてそこを取り戻してるっていうことですね。 Sekihan: Yeah. “Boundlessly wild and free” is a slogan we had adopted at the start of Omedetai. So now we’ve simply gotten our old groove back.

Ah, so it’s a song about a couple. Yeah yeah. “Chikuwabu” is buzzword for ‘Oden noodles’ that only people from Kantou know, so the girl asking the question must be from Kantou. Meaning her boyfriend, the main character, must be from somewhere other than Kantou, yeah that makes sense. It’s like their 2nd year anniversary together then or something like that. Yeah yeah. 'I stub my pinkie toe on the edge of a cabinet It hurt so much I got sent into shock, I kicked the bucket’ I see. The main character dies. 'I’ve tried to tell you my feelings 100 times before, but still after all this time I still left them unsaid' So he wanted to tell her something in the intro (on that special day) but... This clutz of a main character went off and died before he could say it. What a clutz. The number of attempts he’s made at telling her this important thing is.. exactly 100 times. He keeps track huh, he’s quite the feminine main character. So his 100th attempt also ended in a failure. Yeah yeah. 'Let me stay with you Come wake up my cold corpse (body)’ A sudden twist into horror. Even after death he still wants to stick with his girlfriend. He wishes with all his heart: Enough to turn into the walking dead. So the writer just wanted to reference this, I bet. “I won’t diee. Because I love you.” (✳︎'Monday 9' is the word for the dramas that air at prime time on TV https://wiki.d-addicts.com/Getsuku_(Fuji_TV), with the show '101st Marriage Proposal' among them. A notorious line from an episode is these exact words… After a character expresses their distress and terror of falling in love, another character runs out into the rain, almost gets hit by a bus, is safe by a hair, then wails them out at his beloved. Seki’s imagination recreated this zombie style.) On the night of Tanabata, do Hikoboshi and Orihime cross the galaxy that divides them. Once a year, this is the only time they can finally see each other. That’s the common conception of the legend of Tanabata. Likewise, the main character of Tanabattalion Returns.. crosses the galaxy’s river of stars, or more like the River of Sanzu, just to see his beloved. It’s truly necromantik. (A deadly romance). Ah what a dumbbell. (✳︎Dumbbell - Or the true word “baka-chin” is a diss coined by Takeda Tetsuya. In stories he told on his shows, his mother would call him ‘baka-chin’. ) '"I love you so much thatI could just eat you up🤤" This here zombie’s confession rehearsal' So it’s a joke based on the way Zombies are known for eating humans. That’s actually adorable. It’s not funny but still 🥺 I feel as if I’ve heard of this “Confession Rehearsal” thing before... 'I get dressed up from happy go lucky head to toe and head out My legs are dragging, will I make it in time…' If you’re gonna see your special someone then you gotta dress up, y’know. The reason it’s “dress up from happy head to toe” is because it's a reference to our band name Happy go Lucky Heads. (✳︎ The word “Dress-up” is “おめかしOmekashi” here. As the word has “Ome” in it just like Omedetai, Seki changes the Ome in the lyrics to be written in the same katakana way as the band name, instead of the standard hiragana spelling. Imitating the way the band Boyz || Men change every “to” in their lyric booklet to be written as “||”.
The main character... He died and became a zombie because he stubbed his toe so His ambulation is wonky, he can’t get much speed. 324: There’s a story behind this one.. Back when we were traveling on tour I woke up in the middle of the night shaking everyone with “Guys, hear me out. I want to do a song about a Daruma-san that's fallen down. We can play ‘Daruma-san ga koronda’ in the middle.” They found it interesting as well, we got fired up together, thence we have the song we have now.
Sekihan: In regards to the lyrics, we were influenced by our obsession with fitness strength workouts, so the enumeration of muscle training equipment is in there.
Ponikingdom: We also didn’t want to stick only to physical, so we broadened the theme to encompass mental as well, like let’s get through this “Stress-centered society”.
Sekihan: Life is full of unfairness right. What’s important is to not fly off the handle and spout out whatever you feel on the spot, but to ask yourself “I have these emotions: now what stance do I want to take?.” “What should I do next?”. I strive to do so at least. As such this band’s ideology is to “output everything in a celebratory happy go lucky way.”.

Sekihan: Yeah. I learned that’s how I wanna live. I used to lash out with hate as soon as I felt it. Now that I’ve grown to be the better person, I want to take positive stances. Not to mention that Darumas are a good luck charm. So toying around with the culture* of “Daruma-san ga Koronda” was bound to be fun. All paths led to here.

● “かわしゃんせ” やんす/やんせ is formal verb that was used during the Edo era, meaning “Please go do [x]”. The x is this instance is believed to be かわす/躱す. As in.. to dodge and slip through the society, swift like the wind... Because...
● “ひゅるりらり: is akin to the sound of the wind or flutter : using the beauty of nature in music is wafuu. ○ The melody of the line is also in the pentatonic scale, with yona-nuki = a trait of wafuu music. And most importantly in seven-five syllable meter/five-seven syllable meter, this cause the lines of the chorus to sound very wafuu indeed!
● Their trend of ate-ji continues, this time with “家(house[ie])” for a Yeah! sound and “陽(sun rays[yoh])” for Yo!

● Daruma san ga koronda is a game, the western equivalent would be red light green light. One person stands in front of the crown with their back facing. As soon as they finish voicing the phrase “Daruma-san has fallen down!” they turns around! Darumas finds their origins in the Edo era during the smallpox outbreak. Fearing sickness, people took to making wish. Since the color red is believed to ward off evil, a demand arose for darumas to be painted red to ward off smallpox. It’s said that darumas were placed beside children’s pillows during the outbreak.
After the treatment for smallpox was invented, the darumas of Edo drifted off into the shadows.
In gold letters, on its stomach are the words “福入 [Happiness here]”, on its shoulders are written wishes such as “家内安全 (Household health and protection - same as the song’s lyric) or 商売繁盛(Prosperity in business)、大願成就(Fulfillment in endeavors)、or 目標達成(Goal achievement)”. Darumas with scriptures upon them are a common sight across the country. Also, the proverb “Knocked over 7 times: Bounced back up 8 times(七転び八起き)” comes from them, because no matter how many times they fall over they bounce back up. Its stable center of balance reflects the state of the heart, no matter what troubles appear, we can cope with them as long as we keep a calm heart and perseverance.

● Via Gekirock Interviewer: On the flipside of the coin, HELL”O” seems like a song infused with only the darkness of the heart. This type of song was never seen in Omedetai’s roster before.
Sekihan: Up until now we’ve focused on the joys of music, but deep down I actually think this world is a living hell. Omedetai is grounded on the concept of turning negatives into positives, but the fact that we ourselves have negatives inside us just like everyone else was, well, kinda undisclosed before. It’s hard to hit these things into a song or a short performance. The first time I divulged my heart at a long concert MC, everyone kinda went ‘Wow, so he feels like that huh’. People don’t know- and it turns out… people who are extremely depressed or mentally struggling seem to get pissed off when they hear our songs.
Interviewer: The songs are so bright and happy at a glance, huh.
Sekihan: According to some, it feels like it embosses the darkness within them and makes them want to scream “Shut up!”. ‘That’s the perverse effect’ I thought. Giving form and bringing light to those such jittery oozy festering feelings is literally number one on our job agenda. If we can’t even do that, then there’s no reason for us to tell you to have fun. Of course we’re not free of negativity, it’s the very biofuel for our positivity. So I took note of the necessity to shamelessly shamelessly show everyone what it looks like before it’s processed. The opportunity arised along with the full album - we had room for a more negative piece. Thus we came to the decision to do one.
Interviewer: Up until now your writing process involved changing the bad into good. Once you had to write the bare naked bad as is, was there any problems you encountered with?
Sekihan: Actually it feels like we’ve gone all-natural.

mao: Personally when I first saw the lyrics I was sold in an instant.
Sekihan: Seriously? It is true that none of my mates went hard on the editor’s red pen of death this time. Normally they beat the shit out of me with it (laughs). Well now I know that when someone’s truly miserable, it’s best to welcome that misery with open arms. Just saying “You can do it, feel better!” won’t save them. So we have to welcome the misery, soothe it, and only then does our music come it: its turn to give them a boost. I hope this works out well with everyone.

Interviewer: One thing that caught my attention was Poniki’s Twitter post reading “Even I feel like everything in life is stupid fucking bullshiiiit, arghhhh!! - But the band’s branding just prevents me from showing it!”
Ponikingdom: This album served to iron out that idea.
Sekihan: We’re supposed to be guys who ruminate the negatives then output them as positives. But after hearing feedback I learned that sometimes we were interpreted differently: people who are leagues deep in depression say that listening to our songs ticks them off, (laugh) it drags them deeper into depression. Our ultimate goal is akin to literally acting as a spokesperson for upset people, so when I heard that we were actually being counterproductive I was shocked.
Of course we feel negative feelings just like everyone else. So enough beating around the bush I said, we gotta express it directly. Hence “This world is a living hell” is the keyword of HELL”O". And once 324-kun saw that, he followed suit and included the lyric “Karmic hell” in ‘Kotoba no Ayaya’. With these songs in their rightful place, they even helped to bring out the brightness in our positive songs, I think listeners will view us more as people now and I hope these songs are acting as a helping hand to pull depressed people out and up to higher heights.
Interviewer: Omedetai always look like they're having a blast, and look like they’re as positive as can be.. So it makes sense that there are people who don’t fit in such a place.
Sekihan: But I don’t want to shrink and turn my back to them. I think I’ve managed to make space for them too. So this is the fruit of my growth.
