When Virgil decides to make a deal with a fae to pay off his student debt, he's expecting to pay with a night of his time. Instead, he winds up bound for a year and a day to Roman, a fairy prince.
This could either be the worst year of his life, or the best. And he has no idea which.
Chapter 12: The night of the next revel arrives.
The next day, nothing more is said between Roman, Logan and Patton – or at least, not in front of Virgil, it isn't – but there seems to be a faint tension hanging in the air. Virgil is just starting to think he's imagining it – highly plausible, given the magical hangover that has left him feeling twitchy and emotionally raw, all his feelings painfully close to the surface – when Logan suddenly announces that the two of them will be returning home that evening.
Now Virgil is certain of it – there are a lot of meaningful looks being exchanged, mostly when they think he isn't paying attention, particularly between Roman and Logan. But he can't seem to find the right way to say something, and all too soon they're saying their farewells.
To Virgil's surprise, Patton gives him a heartfelt: “It was swell meeting you, Anxiety. We'll see you again real soon!” and plants a kiss on him that's dirty enough to make Virgil blush. Logan simply offers him a handshake, but Virgil feels bold enough to lean in and kiss him on the cheek.
