Ok, story time: I'm a type one diabetic, and today, I was in a restaurant, and this one guy leaned over to one of his friends and whispers (quite loudly) "I wonder what that thing is on her leg?" And he seemed quite judgmental about it. (I have the omni pod as a pump, so it's just a white thing that I place in different places every few days) I kinda looked over at his table, and HE HAD PULLED HIS CHAIR OUT AND WAS STARING STRAIGHT AT ME we made eye contact, and then he quickly looked away, and until he got his food, he kept glancing over at me. He stopped for a little bit when he got his ribs, but when he finished, he went right back to glancing over at me. 1) he was probably in his mid-60s 2) it's quite the same as shaming someone for what they're wearing (considering how uncomfortable I felt and the way he was looking at me) 3) if you're so fucking curious, just ask me! I wouldn't have been offended if he'd just asked me what it was! 4) why was he so damn focused on me, and hardly involved in the conversations with his friends? My sister told me when we left that he'd glance over every few seconds, and when I'd look, he'd whip his head around and seem focused on his food or another conversation.
Okay so I need opinions
Should I give my omnipod another shot?
I had a bad experience with it last March, but I'm kind of desperate for a pump and its the only one that my insurance will cover currently.
Nothing like bleeding all over your shirt and couch cause your insulin pump attacked you.
Help
Okay so whenever I run or do something where I end up sweating a lot the skin under my pump sit is SO itchy. Like just the part where it sticks to my skin not the actual tube into my skin. It's really annoying and doesn't stop it by until I change my site. Does anybody else have this problem?
I hate this stupid insulin pump. Its aggravating, it makes me self conscious, and it constantly reminds me how my quality of life is dependent on this medicine. And I got a box full of shitty pods to go with it. Fuck this omni pod I want my insulin and needles back ;-;
And I don't want to go to the doctor tomorrow. I'm going to have a panic attack.
Okay... the Omni pod lasted 3 hours. DEFINITELY not something I'm going to do... I hate it when I'm wearing jeans and the fact that it shows. I won't want it under a dress, either. Plus, it feels weird when it moves. And, if I feel this way now, it's only going to get worse.
ALSO: I'm headed out of WiFi for the weekend. My mother's lovely co-worker is getting married, and so we are headed to an undisclosed location without internet (as opposed to my usual undisclosed locations which HAVE internet) with 300 shortbread cookies, a drugged up 17 year old, a dog, and my sister. Somehow, my sister is the weirdest thing in that mix.
Preparations Day 2
Dear Jackie,
I've been busy with getting ready for the trip. This takes several days of planning and thinking things through. We will not have a car any of the places we will be, and I don't want to have to take a cab if not needed. It is hard and pricey to find certain items so I am making lists and trying to think of everything I might need.
Yesterday I went and got my hair cut short, I'm hoping it will make it a lot easier to manage on the trip. With all the swimming I do my hair was getting a little stiff anyway, so thought that would help. It is now short and curly, and will much easier to blow dry or just let dry naturally, yay!
I am starting to gather all items I will need for the long trip. I put together all Julie's supplies for her diabetic needs. I plan on taking 1 set for each day, due to the fact we've been having some of them expire and some break, I don't know how else to plan. The old sets seemed to last longer and be more durable, but these are not. And since I hear there are no Omni pods in Australia, I am trying to plan carefully for no mishaps. This also means taking double the test strips, batteries, insulin, etc. I have been trying to figure out how to keep insulin cold for 15 plus hours, I usually use this freezer pack that was made specifically for insulin, but it claims to only keep it cold for 12 hours and the flight is 15, soooooo, I'm thinking maybe use that pack and use freezer packs around it with a small lunch cooler to carry all. Always so much to carry! Then there are snacks, I have to plan in case we are somewhere and there's nothing that will hold her or bring her up. I purchased a large bottle of glucatabs, which should work instead of juice, then I have bought granola bars, snack bars, etc, that we can have in our room and on the plane. Better safe than sorry.
Now I am gathering my clothes, making sure I have a good mix of shorts/t's for Cali and then warmer clothing for Australia. It looks like it will be 50s/60s while there, possibly rainy so figuring out which coat that will be warm and water proof is also something I'm working on. I want to have this all done by Saturday so that I might look everything over Sunday to be ready to leave. Lots to do and lots to think about, lists and notes and then the time to board the plane will be soon!
Til we talk again, E
