41: Would your character want to have any children? - for Fred

Fredrick would really love to have children, even if the man isn’t so confident that he eventually will. At the very least, Fredrick would love to adopt. The man has a very large heart when it comes to family — Fredrick dreams of having a large family filled with relatives, friends who might as well be family, and someday children as well. He’s still young enough to think the dream is rather achievable, but his… romantic… awkwardness does make him think that he might eventually be forced to either adopt his own children or serve as a godfather to his friends’ children instead.

One of the reasons why Fredrick really wants to have children is because he simply loves caring for and raising others. As a child he helped raise Chloe, because their father wasn’t around and their mother was sick, and he found taking care of his baby sister extremely fulfilling. Their age difference wasn’t that large, but Fredrick was endlessly more mature than she was and he helped teach her many lessons about life. This is one of the reasons why Fredrick realized early on that he really wanted children. He also helped babysit for many of the children he knew on the living ship when he was younger.

Fredrick loves taking care of small, helpless animals, especially foals and other baby animals, because he has such a strong paternal streak. With his endless amounts of patience, I think that Fredrick would make a good father if he was ever in the position of being one. He sees raising children as nurturing them until they can stand on their own, and he wouldn’t mind letting them make their own mistakes before gently picking them back up and teaching them why they should do differently. Having kids one day is a big dream of his.

49: How does your character stand politically? - Fredrick

While Fredrick might occasionally engage in conversations about politics, the man prefers to stay away from talking about internal and external politics. In his youth, before he settled down, he had stronger opinions about the Dominion, but now Fredrick has mellowed his opinions into more of a “live and let live… far away from me” stance. The man is terrified of everything the Dominion stands for, as far as he knows about them anyway, because he thinks that the Dominion wants to force the Exiles off of Nexus. Fredrick will fight members of the Dominion without much hesitation because of this — even if he normally prefers not to fight aggressive animals, he sees fighting Dominion soldiers as a necessary evil to protect their new home. This opinion is born of fear of the Dominion, and it doesn’t match his philosophical stance on the Exile-Dominion war. In practice Fredrick will attack any Dominion soldier he finds with their guard down, but in theory Fredrick believes that there isn’t that much of a difference between the two groups — and he mostly blames the Dominion leaders for causing the chasm between Exiles and Cassians in the first place.

As Fredrick doesn’t truly see himself smart enough to understand internal politics, the man usually refuses to take a verbal stance on who he thinks should be running local Exile towns or Exile communities. This is mostly a facade, because Fredrick has strong opinions on who he believes “deserves” to lead those around them. Fredrick has a very strong “for the people” sense of justice, and he despises anyone who sees others’ deaths as necessary for the larger good of the community.

2: What is your character’s favorite memory?

Perseus’s favorite memory has to be the day that he graduated from military academy with partial honors for his last years at the academy. Not only did his favorite aunt Elodie attend, but she recorded the event to send to his parents back on Perseus’s homeworld. The feeling of standing in front of so many people, his chin held high and his accomplishments read for all to hear, it made Perseus feel as though he could do anything. That moment highly influenced the rest of his life, and it made Perseus really, truly proud of himself.


54: What is the saddest thing about your character’s life?

While Perseus would thoroughly disagree with me, in my opinion the saddest thing about Perseus is his prejudice against lowborn Cassians, highborn Cassians, and mechari. It’s difficult to dislike something so core to your identity, especially if it’s an ingrained quality about yourself. Perseus’s prejudice against lowborn Cassians is all wrapped up in other important parts of his character, such as his dependence on the Church and the Empire’s laws to guide his life. I think that any successful attempt to truly make him reevaluate his idea that those with “godsblood” are inherently better than him somehow would break him, even if just a little bit. At the same time, it’s obvious that he struggles against this idea even as he believes it — and therein lies his prejudice against highborn Cassians and mechari.

I think that it’s an inevitable opinion for someone to have within the Wildstar universe, unfortunately. Also, it makes for an interesting internal struggle.

OC Asks #56 & 60, for any or all!

56: What’s one of your character’s quirks?

Fredrick has several really amusing quirks, although I’ll only go into some of his more usual quirks here for the sake of brevity. The man loves daydreaming — he loves it so much that sometimes he’ll lose track of time as he stares off into space, his mind trapped in his own dreamworld even as he remains awake. Usually his daydreams are rather benign, all about what he might build next or how his fields might look in the future, although when he has a crush on someone he tends to daydream even more… to the point of it being embarrassing once his friends realize that he’s been daydreaming for the past few minutes.

Fredrick also has a habit of needlessly apologizing, simply on instinct. Someone crashes into Fredrick? “Uh, sorry about that.” Fredrick drops something minor? “Sorry, didn’t mean to do that.” It gets rather hilarious after a while in my opinion.

Perseus also has many quirks. One of his least obvious quirks has to be his superstitious nature. Not only is the man extremely devoted to the Church, but he also has an extreme tendency to because superstitious about where he leaves his books and what pair of gloves he wears. When he becomes stressed, this tendency becomes even more pronounced — he’ll fuss over having his collar folded the right way before leaving the house for the sake of “luck”, even if he won’t admit it. Also… he has a bit of an exaggeration problem.  He hides it well, but it is an issue.

60: If you could title your character’s life, what would you title it?


Perseus would have his life titled Not Passive but Aggressive, both because I’m obsessed with that song for Perseus lately and because of his general attitude about life.

I imagine that Fredrick’s life would bear the title A Treatise on Farming and Poetry. It would be all about how he landed on Nexus and discovered his dream life, so that seems really fitting.

Considering what you’ve been through in Wildstar these past couple months, what do you want to see more of?

ooc; I feel almost greedy trying to answer this question. I am so happy with the Wildstar community as a whole right now that I feel a bit loath to consider how I might improve it for my own personal enjoyment. It feels like eating a wonderful piece of cake and thinking “oh but I wish I had three times as much frosting” when I already have a ton! People like playing around with my characters, and people enjoy writing stories with me. That’s all I can really ask for personally!

I really like the ideas that other people have been tossing around — especially the “more conflict” idea. Both of my main characters, Fredrick and Perseus, have been carefully crafted when it comes to conflict. I carved their edges into jagged pieces; both react with extreme severity to certain conflict situations that would put them in the position of being the “bad guys”. As I’ve already alluded to Fredrick’s enough, I’ll focus here a bit on Perseus. When I created Perseus as a Dominion character, I knew that I wanted him to have a very dark side to balance out his good qualities. That side is his willingness to believe whatever the Empire and the Church tell him is the truth, even when he knows better. His blind hatred of the Exiles borders on fanatical, which should make it a rather explosive situation if ever he were to meet an Exile (on the field or otherwise). I would love to play Perseus in a situation where he could unknowingly slide into an antagonistic role simply by following his belief that he has to protect the interests of the Dominion from Exiles. As long as such a conflict between Perseus and Exile characters was well discussed beforehand between the players so that everyone was aware of the different characters’ personalities and conflict limits, it would be fun to have Perseus be antagonistic — especially because he’s such a rule-following goodie-two-shoes sometimes about the I.C.I., ect.

More collaborations with other players and more events would be nice as well. Currently Perseus and Fred have mostly just been attending fun events that my friends or guilds have been hosting, which is nice, but sometimes there are large gaps between events. It would be nice to have more one-off events. (I know that I plan on eventually doing several one-off events once I get Fred’s barn built… but that’s whenever I finish the barn.)

Also… this is silly, but I’m really freaking shy when it comes to approaching people for plots and stuff.  The Wildstar community is really great about that, yet it’d be cool if more people (myself included!) felt comfortable just pm’ing someone up and going “would love to rp, what do you think?”.

☼ - Perseus for Tesserarius Sigmalux

ooc; Once again, all mistrust and mistakes are made by Perseus.  Asiux’s looming presence and silent staring the whole time Perseus spoke to Tesserarius had… some… effect on his remembrance of his conversation with Tesserarius.  Who really has a great name.

As the mechari’s name dissipated in the air, the designation deceptively smooth despite the finality of its final syllable, neither Perseus nor his listener moved. For several brief moments, Perseus felt temptation sliding around his thoughts - surely refusing to answer for one name would cause him no trouble - yet Perseus systematically routed each of those cowardious thoughts from his mind. The man narrowed his eyes at the listener, but he could detect no hidden motives within the other person’s detached question.

“My feelings on Tesserarius Sigmalux?” Perseus asked. His words gilded him within golden plates of disinterested arrogance, the smugness in his voice hiding the disquiet stirring within him. The same discomfort spread through Perseus like poison as had when Perseus had been questioned about Asiux, the other mechari Perseus had met after the Dominion Memorial service. Perseus waved his hand twice, the gestures brief, vague, and dismissive. “How might I have formed opinions on the man when I spoke to him for less than ten minutes? Only the truly vain would form opinions on someone with whom they only exchanged the most basic of pleasantries. Unless you think me some trite fool, easily taken in or repulsed by first impressions, certainly I can have formed no lasting impressions of the mechari Tesserarius so swiftly.”

As he glanced at his datachron, his fingers smoothing over its surface as a subtle way to purchase more time to think over his answer, Perseus paused his speech. When he began speaking again, Perseus took care to keep his arrogance raised like a shield. “I might share with you how he seemed impressed by my military status and title when we first met at the Dominion War Memorial — Yes, the one begun by Officer Avis, that very one you might be thinking about. After my speech on behalf of those fallen, taken from us by those damned Exiles, Tesserarius seemed rather approving of my speech. When I saw the mechari later conversing with a colleague of mine, one Senyc Sigma, of course I took the opportunity to converse with Tesserarius briefly. Each of those polished plates of his held the regal bearing of a man of the Crimson Legion, and so how could I resist but ask him of his rank and experience?”

And then, there — his bearing failed him. A small opening slid open in his well-crafted facade, the memory of being in front of those two mechari together — Tesserarius and Asiux — so polite while Perseus knew they must be judging him and finding him lacking. His fingers clenched around the thick cloth of his uniform sleeves, and then, so swiftly, his guard reformed and his countenance returned.

“Unfortunately, I had to leave before I could converse more with the mechari. My colleagues had planned to meet for drinks after the harrowing memorial, and so I had been late to rejoin them at the time. Tesserarius seemed quite polite and formal, the type of Legion soldier that I would enjoy meeting again. There did seem to be something off about him — Oh, not about him, per say. Simply something strange about the way he seemed so calculating — yet that was how the Eldan made mechari. Always watching their surroundings. I can hardly fault him for being the eldanmade mechari that he is.”
