I learned recently that social interactions trigger our brain's same threat/reward assessment as things in our physical environment. Challenges to status or belonging can be threat triggers, which explains a lot of fandom wank now that I think about it. In doing some research I ran across a study that found showing people pictures of others being loved or cared for reduces the brain's response to threat. So, my plan in the event of fandom wank is to post messages and pictures of love and support. BECAUSE SCIENCE.
