i’m constantly showing concern. i think by nature i am a worrier. it’s not something that i have wanted to be. i know that worry in high amounts isn’t a very healthy thing. i believe that it can be something that is good, in small amounts and at the right time. i guess what i wanted to focus on today though was the idea of concern. how we can concern ourselves with something and at the same time show concern. i think that the practice of concerning ourselves with things is insanely important. for one it shows that we actually give a crap about what is going on in the world, and with peoples lives. i find that lately i’ve been trying to concern myself with things that i had fallen away from over the course of last year. i don’t think that i had become self-centered, but maybe i had, but i was so busy all of the time that all i could really think about was waking up, going to work, and sleeping. it consumed every aspect of my life. i was constantly concerned about what was going to happen next. would i get fired? did i mess up? would i be able to have a life outside of work? my life had become a chaos of concern, and not the kind that i necessarily wanted. i didn’t eat properly. sleep was more dreaming about the things that i had done the day before, or what i was going to do the next day. i was drinking a lot ( for me ) to try and shut my brain down. all of the concern that i had just made me a walking zombie. leaving there was like discovering the world for the first time again. i didn’t know what to do. it didn’t take long for me to figure it out, but i was lost for a short while. the key was to begin concerning myself with the things that were important. family, friends, my own life. making decisions based on what i wanted or needed was one of the most daunting tasks as well as one of the best things i could do. once i had concerned myself, well, with myself i found that i was able to get back into other peoples lives. i was able to show that i did in fact care about them and what was going on. before i was constantly deflecting, saying i was busy or that we’d talk soon. i should of being saying i’ll make time and we’ll talk now. now that i’ve begun to take that road life has become infinitely better. the relationships i have in my life now are wonderful and affirming. there’s a mutual concern from both parties. we want the best for each other and because of that we offer the support that we as human beings so often crave. there’s no begging for it. it’s just something that now comes naturally. it’s frightening to think that i had let something that i view as a positive in my life become a negative. those are moments that i can’t get back. concern for no other reason than worry, well it makes us stressed. makes us sick. it shortens the time we have over things that have very little weight over our lives as a whole. i guess where i stand on it is that there is a thing as healthy concern. that’s what i want to show to people. no more worrying about trivial things that just take away the moments that we should be concerning ourselves with. how about you?
