Flower girl 💐
F!Reader X Jack Abbot! Oneshot! <3
Sum: your flowers bring life to the hospital, and life back into one Jack Abbot.
Cw: MDNI, not proofread. female reader, implied agegap, angst and misunderstanding. MyFIRST attempt at smut c: P/V, unprotected but wrap up in real life duckies! Widow!Jack.
Behind the rows of candy, stuffed animals, and cheesy “get well” soon cards, was your little corner.
Your little area to showcase and sell flowers. Whimsical, bright and beautiful, a jarring contrast from the hospitals harsh lights and sterile walls.
Your shop was a well-known secret of the employees too, who preferred your arrangements for their personal needs over others.
You loved your little corner, which you hope to one day grow. This was your happy space. So when when pittfest happened, a part of your little corner shook.
Familes of the victims came to provide life into their dear ones cold and dreary rooms, and it made you want to do something for the staff who worked too hard and too long.
So when you approached Gloria about sending weekly flowers to the staff room, you were genuinely surprised she agreed.
Probably because they’re free, you think with a twinkle in your eye.
Heading over the TD with two large vases in your arms, you look for a familiar face. Dana and you had somewhat of a freindship going on, and you quite like the older women.
She’d stop in for flowers for her daughters every holiday and sometimes even to see what you were working on.
As you looked around, you easily miss a pair of eyes watching you, as he strides over.
“Are you looking for someone?” A deep voice questions you, as your greeted with the image of a handsome older man with salt and pepper hair dressed in black scrub.
“Ah! Sorry! Sort of? I’m looking for Dana so I can drop these off for you. I mean not just for you but the staff! In the staff lounge! Flowers for the lounge I mean” you stammer off, as you feel your face heat.
Jack can’t help but chuckle at you, watching you stumble on your words. Flowers from him huh? He vaguely knows of you, the flower girl.
He staff mentioned how pretty your flowers out failed to mention how stunning you were.
“Dr. Abbot. Here, let me grab those for you” he offers, reaching for the vases as you place them in his strong arms.
“Y/N L/N, I own the little flower stand in the gift shop” you tell him, smiling shyly. “Id offer to share your hand but uh” you gesture to the vases.
“I’ll take a rain check on that then” he smirks at you, as you giggle in response. “Follow me, Dana’s actually in there”
He leads you to the tucked away room, with the sign “staff only” highlighted in red. Suddenly, you couldn’t help but feel silly.
Flowers? It wasn’t like you were offering food or something useful, as you nervously follow Dr.Abbot inside.
“Y/n!! What are ya doing here!” Dana asks as she notices you walk in behind Abbot, going over to give you a squeeze.
“Oh uh weekly flower deliveries now for the lounge. I hope you like them” you tell her, as you watch Abbot place the vases on two of the tables.
“Flowers? That’s what she’s spending on money” Robby snorts from the side making you internally crumple, before introducing himself.
“Dr. Robby” he says, firmly shaking your hand.
“Y/N, I own the little flower shop.”
“Well thank you for the flowers.” He gives you a small smile before leaving, leaving you with Dana and Abbot.
“Don’t mind him, these are gorgeous hun.” Dana says sniffing one of the vases, her shoulders relaxing at the sweet smells.
“He’s consitapted” Abbot tells you making you laugh in shock. He smile slightly, seeing you laugh. You looked so down at Robby’s commment. “But they are, beautiful, I mean. Thank you again,” he nods to you, arms crossed.
“Anytime! Well, more like twice a week now!” You tell him and Dana.
“In that case, find either of us for when it’s time to change them hun. I’ll see you later” she tells you, clapping you on the shoulder and giving Abbot a little wink behind your back. She couldn’t help but pick up a little something something there.
“I should let you work?” You tell Abbot, as he walks over to you.
He’s so close, you could swore you could almost feel his body heat. He stares you down in away that makes you feel faint and unsure for a moment.
“I’ll see you later kid,” he whispers, gently brushing a strand of hair from your face.
——
A week later, you swear you can still feel his touch. His hand felt warm, and rough. The thought of it made you tingle and daydream behind your counter.
You didn’t think you’d see him again though, sighing sadly. You hadn’t caught sight of the salt and pepper haired doctor when you changed the staff flowers, much to your dismay.
So you couldn’t help but be pleasantly shocked to see a familiar figure approaching, near closing time.
He’s long strides, confident walk and smile do something to you, as you wave.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen you here before doctor?” You say, gently smiling.
“Never had a reason to until now.” He states, making you laugh, placing his bag on the floor.
“Well then I hope it lives up to your exception’s” you reply, as the two of you get comfortable.
The conversation flows naturally, as you feel more comfortable with him. He tells you how his staff seem to be enjoying the flowers, the brightness they bring.
You discuss everything, your shop, family, favorite coffee shops and learn you both surprisingly go to the same one- Elenor’s.
It wasn’t until the gift shops lights flickered off, had you both realized how late it had gotten.
“I’m sorry for keeping you,” Abbot tells you as he walks you out.
“Not as all! I really.. loved the company” you look down, unable to look him in the eyes.
“I’ll see you later?” He tells you quietly, a hand brushing your hair like last time.
“Later”
——
Later turned into tomorrow. And the next. And the next.
You’re utterly charmed by one doctor Jack Abbot and his newly uncovered sass. He greets with a latte, usually after learning your order, and you may have started sneaking him homemade treats.
His visits become the highlight of your day. You can’t deny how your heart races when you see his name pop up on your phone. You feel like a schoolgirl, giggling to yourself.
You think he likes you, he has too, right? He seeks you out, sends you texts and old man selfies of himself. Which you absolutely save and love to tease him about.
And besides, friends go to coffee shops together right? So what’s the harm in asking to go to Elenor’s with you?
You feel bold, as he walks over to your corner, eyes tired. He must have worked the day shift you think, as you note he looks ready to leave.
You go over to embrace him quickly, another new highlight of your day that was recently added.
You take in his rich smell and sink into his strong arms. He’s solid, you think, in every way possible. You had behind your little counter as he leans against it.
“Long day?” You ask looking up at him, as he smiles.
“Long. Remind me to say no next time,” as you giggle, already knowing he’d never say no.
“What a hard working old man!” You tease him, getting a “watch it little lady” back.
He stares at you, and for the first time has a request.
“Do you think you can make me a little bouquet? Whatever you like, doesn’t matter.”
You’re surprised by this, as you get to work. He’s never asked for flowers before, even when you offered him.
“Of course Jack! Special occasion?” You glance at him as you put together a pink arrangement with your favorite flowers and baby’s breaths.
“They’re for my wife.”
The words were like a punch to your gut. The air from your lungs leaving as your heart drops.
You still, trying to recall any mention of a wife. A partner. Anything.
Hands shaking as your resume working quietly. You glance at his hands as he’s leaned against your counter.
There it was.
The thick black band around his left ring finger.
Stupid stupid stupid, you can’t help but think as you wrap the flowers, ignoring him. How the hell did you miss that, you think sadly.
You hand him the flowers, feeling his gaze. It feels too heavy to you.
“Here you go. I hope she loves them Dr. Abbot.” You tell him, using his last name for the first time in awhile.
“Wait sweetheart I meant” but you don’t hear him.
You’re saved by a lovely older couple who appear behind him, as you quitely excuse your self to help them.
——
Jack watches you, taking a few steps back. He feels sick to his stomach at his mistake. He debates waiting for you to be done, to clarify.
You hadn’t know about his wife, who passed away years ago. The flowers were for her, for her grave. A token of his love that he still carries for her.
He waits a beet before leaving.
Maybe this was a sign. A sign that that he was just kidding himself. You were young, beautiful, talented and driven. Your life had possibilities, where his was…
Staring down at the flowers, he can’t help but sigh.
She would have loved them. Would have loved you.
——
You feel sick, as you close your stand early. How did you miss an entire wedding band? Did he purpose not tell you or were so blocked by your crush, you missed all the signs.
Heading home, you notice a text from Jack, no Abbot, you harshly remind yourself.
Thank you again for the flowers. They’re beautiful. Let me know you’re home safely.
You huff, as you leave him on read.
——
A few days go by, as Jack stares at his phone, willing you to text. He hasn’t stopped by to visit, not since you left him on read.
Robby can’t help but peak at his phone.
He noticed how quite Jacks been, how he’s been spending more time on the roof. There was a shift in him recently, a pep to his steps that’s completely disappeared.
“Wanna tell me what’s going on brother.”
Which gets him a look in response. “Come on, you’re always talking about my feelings, now it’s your turn man” Robby nudges him and Abbot huffs.
“Been talking to y/n and I messed up. Badly.” He grumbles out.
“…y/n? The flower girl?” Robby’s genuinely surprised, he had no idea the two of your were that close.
“Come on, what’d you do?”
“Yeah the flower girl. I went to get flowers for Penny, been thinking about her lately. Wore my ring and I.. told her the flowers for my wife. Never even told her about Penny, so now she’s thinks I’m a cheating bastard”
“Jack.”
“I knowww” Jack groans out, running a hand through his hair. He doesn’t like talking about Penny often, and didnt want to scare you with his past. He’s a broken old man and now it’s biting him in the ass.
“You gotta tell her Jack. Go tell her about Penny and how you’re an idiot who doesn’t use the correct tense, if you like her so much” Robby tells him, as they stare at one another for a moment.
“You know the flowers she brings are free right, Glorisa doesn’t pay for them. Just likes to give us something nice back” Jack tells him, as Robby laughs.
“Great, guess we’re both dicks” as he thinks about to comment he made to you before.
——
Your days pass slowly now, with no Abbot to keep your mind busy. You will yourself to forget him and his smile. But of course, speak of the devil and he shall appear —
Meet me at Eleanor’s? Please. I owe an explination, if anything.
You sigh reading it, contemplating before agreeing.
Clourse and maybe a good yelling at him to treat his wife better, would be what you needed.
——
When you get to the coffee shop, you spot Abbot already there. Standing infront with two coffees in his hand.
He looks good, you can admint grumply, dressed in dark jeans and a grey knit sweater.
“Hi.” you tell him, as he hands you a coffee.
“Hi”
Jack can’t help but take you in. It’s only been a few days but it’s been too many for him.
“Will you come with me to see my wife?” He quietly asks you.
The question startles you.. Of all the ways this could have gone, this wasn’t it.
“I.. I don’t know Dr. Abbot. This isn’t..” you stammer out but he stops you.
“Please, she won’t mind. Trust me this one time.” and you unwillingly agree.
The two of you walk side by side, your hands sweaty and heart palpating during the short brisk walk from the cafe to… a cemetery?, you note confused.
You follow Jack, unsure and not ready to talk as he leads you to a beautiful headstone. The area around it is well taken care of and loved.
You still and swallows heavily, as you see a beautiful arrangement of pink flowers and baby’s breaths resting on top of the grave.
“I…” you start and stop, as Jack takes over for you.
“This is Penny, my wife. She passed away a few years ago and it’s been me ever since. I … I’m still not used to saying my passed wife, and sometimes I forget not everyone knows, especially when I wear my ring to see her.” Jack stops, taking in your reaction.
“I never wanted to hurt or mislead you, I’m just new at this. Not good at this.” He tells you shaking his head, taking a step closer you. “I’m sorry”
You stare at him, the information overloading your head, before kneeing down infront of Pennys grave.
“It’s nice to meet you Penny. Next time, I’ll bring you more flowers if that’s okay.” You tell her, as a gentle breathe touches your face.
Jack watches and feels his eyes sting, as you make your way to him again.
“Can you forgive me sweetheart?”
“Already forgiven old man.” You tell him, as he gently takes your hand.
——
Jack leads you home, unwilling to let go of you once he has you again. Your hands feels so right in his, as he walks you to your door.
He holds you close, your body pressed against his as he lays his head on yours.
“Jack” you whisper into his chest, as he looks at you.
“Kiss me, please”
And that was all he needed. His kiss lit you on fire, igniting your feelings for him once more as his hand grips your hair, the other on your waist.
As you both let go to gasp for air. “Let me take you out on a date first, please sweetheart.” He tells you as you agree.
A date with Jack Abbot was worth waiting longer for.
——
It was easy to pick up your routine again, comically easy. Days passed by before Jack finally had a night off, a night that would be your first of many.
The date went off without a hitch. Dinner and then back his place for drinks, after he picked you up.
You couldn’t deny you wanted him the second he showed up, in his slutty men’s shirt, sleeves rolled up to show off his forearms, and slacks. You giggled silently to yourself, as you waited for him on his couch.
“Did I mention how beautiful you look love” he tells you, handing you a glass of wine before joining you.
“Just a few times but I think I need to hear it more” you tease him and he squeezes your thigh.
“Brat” he smirks at you, before you both lean into eachother.
The kiss heated, as he pulls you to his lap. You wrap your arms around his broad shoulders and neck, as your hips grind against his growing budge.
Moaning, as he his large hands slip under your dress to help guide you, wetting his slacks.
“Fuck sweetheart, if we continue I’m not gonna stop” he says pulling your mouth off him, hand cupping your face.
His thumb wonders to your swollen lips, letting it drag slowly across as you take it into your mouth, sucking softly.
Fuck if he thought he couldn’t get any harder, watching you.
“Please Jack” you whisper, releasing his thumb. It was all he needed to hear before pulling you to his bedroom.
Your back hits the bed as Jack climbs over you before wincing.
“What’s wrong??” You ask him nervously as he gets up.
“It’s not uh, comfortable to do this with my leg on. I’m sorry sweetheart. I got ahead of myself” he sighs out, as you reach for him.
“So take it off and let me do all the work sir.” You tell him softly, kissing him again.
“Fuck baby. Strip for me, please” Jack makes quick work of his prostheticc, any unsureness leaving his body as he lays down, watching you.
“You’re so stunning baby, perfect body for me” he tells you as you crawl up him, before taking a seat on his lap, cock aligned with your slit.
It’s hard, warm and thick under you, as you grind your dripping pussy on him.
You both groan at the feeling as Jack kisses you again, encouraging you to make yourself feel good.
“Can I please” you whimper needily against his lips, moaning as he roughly smacks your left cheek.
Jack can’t help but grin at how wet and needy you are on top of him. A fucking vision of need and beauty.
“Go on baby, take me cock and make yourself feel good. It’s all for you” he orders you, as he helps you slide it in.
The room fills with your joint moans as you ride him as hard as you can with his help. One arm around your waist, the other around your throat as he whisper dirty secrets to you.
“Been thinking about this since the day I saw you baby, thinking about that wet tight pussy gripping me and filling you with my cum. Come on baby, work for my cum. Be a good girl and lemme fill you up over and over again.”
Jacks mouth was so filthy, it was enough to make you cum.
He reached his peak shortly after, pounding into you roughly from below. You collapse on top of him, as he pets your head, comforting you.
You share a few more kisses and laughs before sleep finds you both.
