so i have something to say about one tricks in OW. my opinion is that theres nothing wrong with it as long as the intent is still to play the game and do well. i recently made a bastion only smurf and currently im playing it at a rough diamond/masters level, i cant give a really good rank because im not high enough level to play comp but in QP thats about where it is. keep in mind, i won my way up with bastion only. one thing that ive noticed is that every loss means that its immediately my fault because im playing an odd hero (same thing with sym and torb players). its not true though, i mean i do have bad games or unfortunate RNG because some maps are total shit for bastion, but most of these losses were from players who werent doing well by playing things outside of their comfort zone because they think thats the way to win. i see support players try and play tank or dps and other combinations of changing. frankly speaking when people who main a hero makes the decision to play something outside of their comfort zone they will likely do worse. this goes for everyone dps, tank, support mains alike (yes dps players out there, most of you dont know support positioning). however if theyre doing it with the justification of team comp or meta then they feel like theyre the contributing members when in fact their effectiveness is significantly lowered and they push the blame onto others.
these players get really mad at players like me whos one tricking bastion on my smurf but most players in OW are one tricks. people often think theyre not because they play a little of everything when it calls for it but they win less when this happens. take sinatraa for example, i mean he can play everything really well because hes incredibly skilled but hes a tracer one trick because he plays tracer at a level way above the rest of his hero pool. and most people do this, theres nothing wrong with it.
a lot of people get angry with one tricks for various reasons but it usually isnt any fault of their own, just a result of matchmaking. and again these angry people are usually one tricks themseves, losing the games they play when theyre playing heroes theyre not used to or just making really bad comps to stay comfortable. people just shouldnt get angry at the other players for that. when i get matched into a game with 3-4 support mains or like 5 dps mains i already know that im at a disadvantage. im not going to get angry at these players for being one tricks if we lose because we would be likely to lose in the first place.
to note, my main is a mid-high masters tank/dps flex pref zarya/hog/rein/mccree/pharah. i can play others but i know i wont do as well.
