I’ve done the metro a few times to get to the convention center, and it’s actually very reliable and pretty fun if you happen to find other people on the train. It’s pretty neat.

It's really not too bad. You can also pull the itinerary from the metro (WMATA) website. It will tell you where you need to be and at what time.
What is the best way to get from Union Station in DC to the Gaylord? I"m taking a train into to the station from NY
Take the Metro (red line) towards Shady Grove, and get off at Gallery Place Chinatown station. Hop on the green line towards Branch Ave. Get off at Branch Ave station. Board the NH1 bus towards National Harbor. Bake at 300 degrees for 60 minutes. Let cool and season to taste.You could also take a taxi if that seems easier. Or take the metro (red line) towards Shady Grove, and get off at Gallery Place Chinatown. Switch to the yellow line going towards Huntington, get off at Ronald Reagan National Airport, and then take the shuttle (make a reservation) to National Harbor. But, both those options will cost a lot more.
