Writing Resources
Whether you're writing fanfiction or original fiction, hoarding writing links and resources is a way of life. I have many, many links that I need to sort through and organize, but there are two websites in particular that I always find myself coming back to when I'm starting a new project, or in the middle of an existing one.
The classic: The Fantasy Name Generator. Never leave home without it. Everyone knows this one, but it wasn't until a few years ago that I started actually scrolling to the bottom of the page and, my god, there is sooooo much more down there. Pacific Rim name generator? That's just the stuff of dreams right there. With over 900 generators, the Fantasy Name Generator has got your back. And even if I don't use a specific name from this site, nine times out of ten, the list it generates inspires me towards the character name that perfectly fits my needs. In a world full of AI garbage saying it can do the work for you, please take a look at the hard work of one lovely internet resident, that is there to help inspire your creativity. Thank you, Emily.
My second resource is the OneLook Thesaurus. Have you ever been trying to describe a scene and suddenly, the word you're looking for goes completely out of your head? OneLook Thesaurus lets you type in a description of what you're trying to express, then gets you a list of words it might be. Freaking magic, if you ask me. You can use a word, phrase or description to find the word you're looking for, and it also does standard definitions and synonyms. Honestly, this is one of my favorite resources that I've found in recent years and I wish I could take every writer by the shoulders and tell them "you don't have to struggle for that word! Here is a resource!!"
I hope I can add more links to my trove of resources to share, but right now, these two are the crown jewels of my little hoard. Go forth and find the word you're looking for!
I don't know about you, but I always have this one open when I write
