It rained all through Sunday night and I kept praying to God that the rain will stop before Monday morning because we have to fulfill our obligations to Government Junior Secondary School Mpape, Abuja. We were excited when we were leaving for the venue, at last my prayers was answered so I thought. We headed straight to the principal's office to announce our arrival before proceeding to where the children were gathered. We started by exchanging pleasantries with the children and committing our programs into the hands of God. The program started well but not without pushing and shoving from the students, we finally made them stay calm. If any of you have worked with students from the public schools, you will understand better. All these are a result of the large population. We hadn't gone 10 minutes into the program when we noticed that the weather had started to change, we didn't have a choice than to speed up the activities but the rain couldn't wait for us to round up. This was its season. We had to tell the kids to run back to their classrooms but most of them refused. Despite the heavy down pour we had to continue to share the sanitary pads to the girls. . This is to tell you that period poverty is real, if children could stay under the rain to collect two packs of sanitary pads. There is no better time to act than now. Together we can make lives comfortable for these children. No one has ever gone poor by giving instead God keeps enriching them. Lend a hand... Touch a life . . . The positive impact of educating girls cannot be overemphasized and yet girls are still missing school due to some challenges that can be prevented. . It’s a fact when some girls are menstruating they skip classes which ought not to be. Most girls are self-conscious about bleeding on their clothes during their menstruation because they can't afford a pack of sanitary pad. . Some girls use their old clothes which may not be hygienically okay and cannot keep the blood from staining their dresses. . This prompted Ray Of Hope Empowerment Foundation in partnership with @ladycare_ng to visit Government science secondary school Pyakassa, Abuja, for a one day health talk and distribution of free sanitary pads. Poverty and vulnerability has continue to push far too many young girls out of school and into the labour market. Some girls remain in school, but are disadvantaged doubling up studies with work. For households living in poverty, girls may be forced to pull out of school and into work in the face of external shocks such natural disasters, rising costs, or parents inability to work or unemployment. . By leaving school prematurely, girls miss the chance to lift themselves, their families and their communities out of poverty. Sometimes they are exposed to worst forms of labour that are damaging to their physical, mental and emotional well-being. The goal of menstrual hygiene management is to ensure that women and girls can manage their periods in a way that is not only healthy, but that enables their full participation in school, work, and other activities. . . The field of sexual and reproductive health and rights has not embraced menstrual hygiene management . . This is why ROHEF and her partners will continue to solicit the support of kindhearted individuals and corporate bodies to join us in the fight against period poverty by supporting girls and women with the proper materials that will keep them clean and safe during menstruation. It is on this note that Ray Of Hope Empowerment Foundation in partnership with Sankin Nigeria limited makers of Lady Care Sanitary pads visited Government Junior Secondary School Shadadi, off Lantor Road Kuje, Abuja on the 4th of July 2019 for a one day sensitization on menstrual hygiene management and distribution of free sanitary pads. On behalf of the students and staff of Government Junior Secondary School we appreciate Sankin Nig Ltd for the their support towards ensuring that every girl child's dignity is protected by donating sanitary pads to School girls across Nigeria. . . The program was a huge success, we were able to reach out to 300 girls and 50 teachers with sanitary pads. "PROTECT MY DIGNITY AND STOP THE RED SPOT is dear to our hearts because it will not only afford us the privilege to donate sanitary pads to these girls but it will give us the opportunity to educate them on how best to care for themselves so as to avoid being infected during or after menstruation. and most importantly stop them from skipping classes. . The disadvantages of using clothes or other means to absorb menstrual flow is that when these materials are not taken into care and not washed properly, cloth pads can cause vaginal infections which in turn is a harbinger to many harmful diseases. . . It occurs due to the formation of bacteria which happens as a result of uncleanliness. . . This is why we are calling on kind spirited individuals, corporate bodies and organizations to be our sister’s keeper by donating a pack or packs of sanitary pads to protect women and girls from infections. . . .
