She was originally going to debut with WJSN but the company decided that she wasn’t quite ready to debut and went with another girl instead of her. Feeling more than a little dejected, she ended up leaving the company when her training contract ended. She felt like she had wasted all that time and all she had been given was debt, and was about to give up her goals of performing when she got a call from her elder sister.
Background:
Krystal was born and raised in Austin, Texas. From a young age she was surrounded by music and theatre. Her father was a member of a local Orchestra and her mother directed children’s musicals. So growing up she was immersed into this life, auditioning for musicals, learning to play the violin, taking acting classes and vocal lessons. The whole deal.
Despite always being in the realm of performing, she never thought of herself as very talented despite the effort she put into her craft. She rarely got lead roles and would usually be cast in ensemble, and she had never been first chair violin either. She tried her best not to let it get her down, but living in the shadow of her elder sister Ruby was a little more than challenging. So when she hit middle school, she asked her parents if they would be willing to let her move in with her grandmother in South Korea. She had always enjoyed when they would visit during holidays so she figured that if she wanted a fresh start and a place to just be herself, that would be it. It took a LOT of coercing but eventually her parents agreed and she ended up moving just in time to start High School in Ulsan.
During these years she applied to a few different idol companies, out of just curiosity (and a few of her friends also applying just for fun). To her surprise, she ended up getting accepted into Starship entertainment. During her time as a trainee she worked extremely hard but it always felt like she wasn’t getting anywhere. She did make a few close friends out of the other trainees.
Ruby encouraged Krystal and apologized for pushing Krystal away in their youth. She wished her younger sister the best. So with new found determination she began applying for new companies. Eventually she was called back by Rainbow Bridge World and Pledis. She decided to go with RBW since Pledis had just debuted a new girl group so it would be unlikely she would have had her debut anytime soon. What she got at RBW was definitely not what she was expecting though.
Trivia:
Former Starship trainee
Favorite color is Purple
She doesn’t like being called Soobin, as she is more used to Krystal or Yosei.
Fluent in English, Korean, and Spanish.
When she first joined the RBW “Boys” project, she had a tendency to keep a RBF around the guys when they weren’t working. This lead to Keonhee being genuinely intimidated by her.
Out of all the members, she is the closest with Xion and Leedo. Too Moons like to refer to them as the parents and their teething toddler. (Yosei swears that she is the father.)
She can not cook at all. She says she is cursed, and Leedo says she just doesn’t pay attention.
Ravn actually helped pick her stage name, as she was having trouble deciding on one. He suggested Yosei, the Japanese word for Fairy.
Hates agyeo and refuses to do it when asked, and even pushes it off onto other members like Leedo. The only person who can get her to do it is Xion.
She was added to the line up during the 5th episode of ‘I Will Debut’ at the same time that Onewe joined the show. It was a bit awkward at first since she was a part of Oneus but she was basically forced to play the games with Onewe as a way to keep the teams even. Because of this she had a closer relationship with Onewe for a good few months and would hang out at their dorms a lot. Even now she says that CyA is her best friend out of both groups
She has stated in interviews that she would like to break out into acting.
