Like a Storm | Jonghyun & Onew
He desperately wished to no longer hear the shattered bones crunching underneath his boots or feel the now inexorable fear that seemed to work its way inside his rib cage, rocking him as if trying to prove that his assumptions were close from being the raw, miserable reality. Truth be told, he wasn't expecting such drastic change of events. The free district not far from his own was supposed to be one of safest around the area. Not only for having some kind of invisible protection from the firefly district, but also it was located in a place that the infected seemed to not find ways to overrun it. Knowing that Jinki was there, although the previous fight and past memories had left him with unsettled feelings, was - in fact - a relief for Jonghyun. He was there, supposedly safe and out of danger. That, was what he thought seconds ago. Now... He was completely drowned in despair and worry.
Finding himself running all the way to the free district was far more exasperating than what he thought. It wasn't for the fact that even running at his full speed, he still felt like it was too slow for his own liking. It was more for the fact that even at this distance, he could already hear the inhuman groans and cries of those that weren't lucky enough to escape. It was that, and the fact that his mind seemed to be playing tricks on him, reminding the older one constantly that one of those could be Jinki. That Jinki could already be dead. It proved fruitless at this point to try to ignore those thoughts, being there constantly and torturing him to his core. But he used those thoughts to give him the strength he was already lacking, his legs screaming silently for some kind of rest and the air he breathed wasn't no longer enough for his suffocated lungs.
It took him a total of ten minutes to reach the free district, the chaos settled already leaving him completely lost and helpless. He couldn't go straight away to the hospital. That was impossible when infected could be found everywhere. So he had to go all around, losing even more time when time itself seemed scarcer than clean water in the summer. He could only growl in raw despair, hand rushing through his wet silver locks, but he didn't stop... Not even a second to gaze what was around him; when infected were so close by that he could also die right there. But he didn't care. Jonghyun just couldn't care. Not when Jinki was there... Not when he could lose him although he was still so insecure with past memories.
He could feel stares on him the moment he had walked into the hospital, the surprise so evident in their expressions that, in other circumstances, Jonghyun would have laughed. However, all he had in his mind was to reach the familiar kitchen, find the person he was so desperately to see and leave that damn hell before everything turns into ruins.
But his whole world seemed to collapse the moment he was in that kitchen... And Jinki wasn't there anymore.
He looked everywhere, as if he had that slim expectation that Jinki was hidden somewhere. And after that, he looked in every single division of that hospital, already with such bewilderment that he shouted Jinki's name countless times. To the point his voice become hoarse, to the point that even his throat hurt. "No... God, no." He whispered, eyes widened as he walked back to the entrance, gazing the chaos right before him. "No, you can't be there. You can't, Jinki. You..." And his voice died the moment realization fell upon him. The moment he realized that Jinki was right there... Within the chaos.
