Random thought - what if the Oni reproduce asexually through like a chest burster method/that one scene from Alien?
What if instead of hatching Garmadon and Wu out of Eggs, the FSM was dealing with a wailing newborn (and later toddler) and a giant hole in his abdomen, caused by his spontaneous children?
What if FSM forgot to explain this to his kids and then after he's dead and Garmadon runs off with Chen, Wu wakes up one day with horrible stomach pains and hours later baby Morro rips out of him because he was missing his family and his body needed to compensate?
(given that Misako exists Lloyd was likely born the human way)
Oni horns and tusks are very important to the individual, showings one strength and health, a physical representation of ones life.
The few appropriate times that an oni can have a lack of horn and/or tusks is if they are cut off after death so that the family can keep that onis spirit and strength with them, or if they are lost in battle.
If an oni is banished they have their horns and/or tusks are cut off and destroyed, showing that their life in the community has been erased. And they are only allowed to come back when they grow back.
OHOHOOOOO YES
They file their horns sharp and engrave them before battle.
And they're very much about keeping their tusks clean and polished.
The oni ninja would probably find it strange that Lloyd doesn't have any, and that he only has tiny little fangs useless for anything.
Hi, it is me again, disturbing you about your glorious fic... You played with the ages a little bit in "The Teachings of Demons" right? Could you give me a list of the main character ages? (if you don't mind)
Hi there! I’m always happy to answer questions about ToD. :)
I didn’t change any of the characters’ ages from those given or implied in the original Hakuouki games [ages were later set out in the bonus material for Hakuouki Shinkai - Kyoto WInds/Edo Blossoms). Hakuouki (and ToD) uses the following ages for the main characters (as of late 1863, or early 1864; these are mostly approximate historical ages):
Heisuke, Saito (b. 1844):19Okita (b. 1842 - historically either 1842 *or* 1844): 21Harada (b.1840), Nagakura (b. 1839): 24, 25Hijikata (b. 1835): 29 (he was only 34 when he died!)
The Oni ages are/were much more debatable; however, the ToD ages are reasonably consistent with what is known:
Kazama: 27-28 (ToD would have him born approx. 1837)[Note: a lot of people headcanon that Oni are (much) longer-lived, and that Kazama, in particular, could be 50, or 70, or 100+; personally, I don’t have any problem with that, and what was “canon” was difficult to figure out when many fics were first written; as it turns out, late twenties is what the story creators had in mind]Amagiri: late thirties (about 10 years older than Kazama)Kimigiku: mid-thirties (ToD age may be slightly older than canon age?)Shiranui: mid-to-late twentiesSenhime: ~ 16 (but note that the lore of ToD, as explored in later chapters, accounts for why her skill and knowledge base is so high)Chizuru: 16
I eventually had to draft up a complete family tree for my Oni (of course, I had notes from the very beginning of the story, since the family/clan relationships are so important). My family tree includes the “missing” clans - those Oni clans that have died out or been destroyed over the past 1000 years.
As a final note, I had to come up with my own ideas about the Oni clans, and especially the village of Yase (Senhime’s home). I played Otomate’s Demons Bond about 1.5 years after starting ToD - I’d had no idea there was a quasi-canon “prequel” to Hakuouki.
Oddly enough, there are several things that are very similar between ToD history/lore for the Oni and Demon’s Bond, such as Yase village being made up of Senhime’s clan and Kimigiku’s shinobi clan, and the idea that Kimigiku’s clan was the one clan with a high proportion of female Oni. Another detail that stuck out for me as surprisingly similar: Amagiri’s clan was originally a first-tier clan (equal to the Kazama, 300 years before); however, human war and expansion meant that the Amagiri clan lost their home, and eventually ended up living on Kazama land under the auspices of the Kazama clan.
@soujthings and I were discussing headcanons and we’d turned to Oni-Shinsengumi HCs, including their RP and my story Teachings of Demons:
(On a side note - if Souji is related to Kazama or Chizuru I’m literally going to squeal, because in our roleplay his closest two oni ancestors are from their respective clans and Kazama names him a far relative.)
My answer: it’s all in Chapter 85 (hehehe!).

PS Yes, I will write a new chapter soon. I know it’s been far too long! Gomenasai deshita!
