something that really gets me about xiaolan's letter to maomao is that xiaolan - in the first episode - asked maomao to teach her how to read and write to help secure a future outside the palace. now - in the last episode - maomao's reading a letter that xiaolan wrote all by herself as she leaves the rear palace for her new job.
in particular though, there was one line that made me think even more into the messaging behind xiaolan's letter - "Oh, I wish I could tell you in person" - without a doubt, xiaolan's made amazing progress in learning to read and write (her letter being the proof). but i wonder if there's a double meaning to this, how xiaolan's still learning how to write, and therefore she couldn't properly express what she wanted to maomao in written word.
