do y’all ever think about how people’s online usernames slash nicknames slash names are what people would like to be called if they didn’t have the pressure of conventional naming schemes that occur offline because me too

It never occurred to me how strange this sentence would sound out of context.

Imagine saying to someone:

"I'm friends with Ella and Olm, and I'm acquainted with Fish and Churro. I'm Pen, by the way!"

Me and Fish being aquatic animals >:3

I've known people IRL with equally strange names that their parents assigned them.

I thought about providing a pseudonym that is a more traditional name when I first started interacting with people, but ended up just not providing a name. That's how we ended up at Olm.

I'm bored so here's a lil lore drop of my online names (put in order of preference)

Smoke: This one is a slight play on my irl name, and also comes from the Smothering Smokebreaths in How to Train your Dragon, plus I just like fire-like names.

Spectral/Spec: I really loved ghost and spirits, and my friend help me pick Spectral specifically. (Also because I often just, watch people do things)

Ace: Almost all of my usernames have "Ace" in there somewhere. I'm asexual (if you couldn't tell) and often have the flag in my pfp, so making it apart of the name is nice too!

Inspector/Inspector Whistable: Hehehe silly fandom reference that's also my pfp at the moment. Very fun!

Anxiety: Would you believe it's because I have anxiety? Mainly because of my officalverse blog, and I think it's fun :>

Jack: A simple name easy for people to remember. Really love pretty much every interpretation of Jack Frost (especially Rise of the Guardians) as well as Jack Skellington from Nightmare before Christmas.

Dude: Pretty self-explanatory, comes from specifically my tumblr username. Not really a name, but works none the less!
