HOW IT WORKS : All you have to do is put a pin with a note detailing your idea. For example, it is possible to take an image unrelated to makeup and describe the type of makeup you see in it. Please remember this is not a request board, but a suggestion board to fuel my creativity! 💖

Hey, delete if you don't want to answer this but I need to ask someone this and ig reaching out to someone on the internet works. I've never been formally diagnosed with Autism or ADHD but I have a lot of the symptoms of both and I always feel like no one really understands me but I don't know why. I also relate to people who have both a lot and I feel sort of bad bc I kind of. Want to have autism? Not bc i think it'd make me quirky or cool, it'd just explain a lot. Am I ableist for that?

gonna preface this with a disclaimer that i’m not a psychologist, i’m a teenager on the internet who makes posts about sonic the hedgehog, so take this with a pinch of salt

anon i’m pretty sure i know what predicament you’re in because it’s more or less exactly how i found out i had adhd last year - i went ‘dat me’ at every single post i saw about adhd until finally my brain cell turned back on and i said ‘oh shit’ to myself and started looking into diagnosis. chances are that if you relate to people with the disorders and can identify the symptoms in yourself, you probably have it!

it’s not at all ableist to want a diagnosis; in your case it’s evidently a case of ‘i think that knowing this for sure about myself will help me to better understand who i am and what i need’ rather than ‘i want the explanation for my quirks that looks coolest in a tumblr bio’. i get the concern and it’s good that you’re being conscious about not wanting to appropriate neurodivergent experiences, but there’s nothing wrong with thinking you might have something and wanting to know for sure.

i’d recommend going to a psychologist who can formally diagnose you [aka not a shitposter on the internet lmao] and asking to get yourself checked over. even if it does turn out that it’s only coincidence and you don’t have autism or adhd, they’ll at least be able to point you in the direction of what you might have instead. it can be daunting going in for a diagnosis but it’s a huge weight off your shoulders to know the answer!
