Shiny hunting in pokémon should be a vaccine against gambling addiction. Calculate this with me:

I'm playing Pokémon Legends ZA. The usual chance for a shiny pokémon is 1 in 4,096. With a Shiny Charm (an item you get basically at the end of the game), your chances go up to 1 in 1,024.38.

This game have alpha pokémon, which are bigger than average and with better stats and lots of HP. The chances of a pokémon being alpha (aside from the fixed ones) is 5-40% (1 in 20 to 1 in 2,5). All good?

Well, I'm hunting for a shiny Eevee with a shiny charm. So, flat 1 in 1024.38.

Well, as I try to hunt for ONE eevee, I got:

- A shiny alpha goomy (95% chance of spawning in that spot, 20% chance of being alpha), an event with a chance of around 1 in 5400 to happen

- A shiny alpha hawlucha (20% chance of being alpha) - chances around 1 in 5120

- A shiny alpha furfrou (60% of spawning 20% chance of being alpha) - a staggering 1 in 8550 chance of happening.

All those ultra-rare events in succession and a measly 1024 keeps eluding me.

Don't gamble, kids. Shiny hunt. Same thrill and you only lose time (with ZA and a turbo controller, less time than usual).
