Arden's leg shook as she dropped herself into a chair in the deserted mess hall, her crutch falling to the floor with a clatter. No one dropped off her daily food tray today, and the recruit hoped that by waiting to sneak out this late, she might be able to snag something, anything from the cupboards while everyone else was sleeping. But she'd underestimated the distance from her room, and the short trip left her exhausted and drained.

"Forget food... for a second," she panted, laying sprawled, face down on the table. 

She sighed, closing her eyes and decided to rest for a bit, not noticing the other figure in the room, hiding among the shadows.
