Hello! I am pursuing a degree in zoology with a focus on wild animal care. This will probably involve me spending a lot of time at zoos, for school and possibly for a career. I will of course try to only support rescues/sanctuaries and responsible facilities (such as the San Diego Zoo), but seeing as how competitive the job market is, especially for jobs with animals, I may end up having to work/study somewhere less responsible/ethical. Would this be hypocritical for me to do as a vegan?
Hi there! I understand that you may be facing a difficult situation. I’m no one to tell you what to do. We all have had or still have jobs that may go against our beliefs. I used to work at Hewlett Packard, I was there for 2 years, but all that time I was striving to change and get something better, I’m now in the way or becoming a health coach.
Maybe you’ll have to start from the bottom, but you can get to a place where you feel happy, also you can take the opportunity and teach others about veganism inside a zoo (in any case you have to work in one) just to give an example. We can take every opportunity we have to speak about it.
Do what feels right for you, listen to your heart.
