“Oi, nerd. What’re you doing next week?” Katsuki asks, no preamble.

“Uh.” Izuku blinks wide eyes up at him. “Hi, Kacchan. What am I – wait, what? When?”

“Next week,” Katsuki repeats, and oddly, Izuku seems to go pink across the bridge of his nose. “Over break? You got plans or what?”

“I mean. Not really? I guess I’ll probably just be at home. If you…” He pauses, swallowing, then plows on determinedly, “If you want to come over or anything. I know you haven’t really been to my place in years, but – well, you know. If you’re bored.”

“So you’re free,” Katsuki confirms.

Izuku squints at him. “Yes…?”

“Okay.” Katsuki falls silent, trying to work out a not-stupid way to ask, and then decides that asking at all is actually the stupid part. Why let him say no? “Come skiing with me,” he demands.

Featuring snowy hills and private hot springs, a little healing, lots of talking, nosy parents, and Katsuki & Izuku remembering what it's like to be friends.

Onsen - Japanese Hot Spring

An onsen is a Japanese hot spring and the bathing facilities and inns frequently situated around them. As a volcanic active country, Japan has thousands of onsens scattered throughout all of its major islands.

Onsens by definition use naturally hot water from geothermal heated springs. Onsens are different from sento, indoor public bath houses where the baths are filled with heated tap water.

Tochigi Prefecture, Yo!

Sup? Mari from Team Lari here.

Let’s see, we are almost done with the Kanto region, huh? On prefecture 13 of 47. The lucky number 13, that is. So, here we go. Drum roll if you could.

Tochigi! I had to say this one a few times to memorize it better. The other 12 were apparently easy for my brain, and this one, well, I had to imagine a Togipi! This is our second landlocked prefecture aside from Saitama. Just as a quick reminder, Honshu is the largest island of Japan and where our prefecture of the day is resting on. It sounds like a very humid place through the year, more like on a Florida scale rather than an Illinois one. (This is how a gage things. Illinois v. Florida. The only states I’ve ever lived in.)

-Nikko

*This city is pretty much deeply rooted in Japan’s history. It’s actually part of the World Heritage list.

*It’s easy to see why. The temple built in the 1600’s, Nikko Toshu-gu, resides in Nikko.

*From what I saw of the reviews, the temple is a very large and impressive place that’s a must see.

*There are beautiful carvings in the main hall worth gluing one’s eyes to.

*After reading a view reviews, if I want to take a tour, it’s best to take one on a weekday.

*There’s also the shrine and mausoleum duo, Taiyuinbo.

*This location is very important because it is said where Tokugawa Ieyasu rests in peace.

*Tokugawa Ieyasu is responsible for creating the Tokugawa Shogunate that ruled Japan during the Edo Period from 1603-1867. Thus, a place needing to be checked out!

*Aside from the temples and shrines, there’s also some nice nature in Nikko.

*Mountains, waterfalls, lakes, hot springs, you name it! Plus, the autumn colors are best seen on Shinkyo bridge.

-Nasushiobara

*This city was just formed in 2005. I’m learning that many larger cities have formed around the radius of Tokyo in order to become accustomed to the growing population.

*There’s apparently a hella ton of onsens to visit.

*One being Nasu Onsen, which is at the base of a volcano

*The other being Shiobara Onsen, serenely nestled in the crook of a valley at Mt. Nasudake.

*We shouldn’t forget that Nasushiobabra is part of Nikko National Park

*In which case, there’s plenty of hiking, wateralls, bridges, and skiing.

*I think I should take up skiing if I plan to go to Japan….ehehe.

Well, folks, that’s Tochigi. 13 of 47. Slow going, but at least it’s going. Did I miss anything for this prefecture that should be added? Let me know! Submit something, and I’d be glad to post it on the blog!

Gunma!

Let’s see. I feel off about 14 of 47. Let me do a review by memory to straighten things out. 1- Hokkaido 2- Aomori 3-Akita 4- Iwate 5- Miyagi 6-Yamagata 7-Fukushima 8-Ibarki 9- Chiba 10- Tokyo 11- Kanagawa 12- Saitama 13- Ibaraki! I guess I was right. That makes Gunma, or prefecture of the day, number 14!

Gunma is our third landlocked prefecture, and even more so because its encased in mountains such as Mt. Akagi, Asama, and Haruna. Thanks to being inland and shrouded with mountains, this is a very windy prefecture with little precipitation. Their economy is mostly known for agriculture and the car making industry. This is the final prefecture of the Kanto region.

-Shrines for Laurel!

*Haruna Shrine, which is right next to the beautiful Lake Haruna. Most go to this shrine in order become energized. I might need to go there because this coffee right here isn’t doing much.

*Myougi Shrine, which is a shrine that is used in many movies concerning historical Japanese dramas. Aside from the architecture being top notch, it is also highly important and considered cultural property.

-History for Mari!

*The Tomioka Silk Mill.

*The mill is paraded as the first modern silk factory that was established in the early Meiji era of 1872.

*The mill was held as a model for not only other budding silk factories, but industry in general.

*Tomioka was recently made into a World Heritage site in 2014, woohoo!

-A Buttload of Onsens

*Kusatsu Onsen, in the Edo period, this onsen was nominated considered to be the best in Japan. To further Kusatsu’s fame, the German doctor, Erwin von Baelz, sang the onsen praises in the late 1800’s. (No, not Erwin from "Attack on Titan," geesh.)

*Ikaho Onsen, which is the current Japan’s most recommended onsen to visit. It’s lays next to Mt. Haruna, huddled in an arch of stonework, and is famed for reddish brown waters of relaxation. Ikaho is so famous that it has its own song.Check out the song below!

*Minakami Onsen, which is considered to be the largest Onsen town in Japan. There’s a multitude of outdoor activities like hiking, trailing, and (you guessed it) skiing. Really have to learn…

*Shima Onsen, which is apparently rated the number 1 health resort. It sounds comfy there. Fall colors, public bath houses, and elegant ryokans with up to 40 separate hot springs to choose from. Oh boy. Steamy.

Well, what I learned from Gunma is that it’s history rich, and bursting to the seems with heated water paradise. I feel all warm and cozy just thinking about it! Here, here for 14 of 47! Wooooo!
