Ussal Rave
Head Candle
I’ve been working on some Matoran accessories, I made the strap that the Ussalry use to hold their discs and the head candles you can see a few miners wearing before the light stone mine is reopened.
I tried to animate it a bit, the flame flickers and wavers. I quite like the effect but it really only works for candle flames and wouldn’t really be useful for larger fires.
I didn’t actually know about the head candles until like a few months ago. When I first played MNOLG it was all released so I always went through Ta-Koro first meaning I’d solve the light stone puzzle before ever getting to Onu-Koro. I never knew the whole place was dark and lit by tiny torches to start... I think the first time I’ve ever gone through Po-Wahi was when I was getting screenshots for making the Ussal crab 3d models.
I love the head candles so much <3
Pixel Art of Onua´s mask evolution!
Great Mine Elevator
Model of one of the elevators you can see in the Great Mine.
Onu-Koro Mining Equipment
I felt like making some of the equipment you see around the various Onu-Koro excavation projects in MNOLG. I had to cheat and make up a piece for the cart bed.
The drill also used a modified claw piece. In the game apart from Whenua’s staff the drill is made entirely out of mangled Ussal Crab parts. Actually if you look closely Ussal pieces are everywhere, the base of the light dishes, the piping that’s leaking lava blocking the lightstone cave, the winch mechanism on the elevator in the great mine, even the Electric bug in the Nui-Rama hive. That’s not even getting into other reused graphics like how the Ussalry strap their discs to their backs using severed arms. Game development is weird.
Making Taipu hold a pickaxe like that with both hands was extremely hard, the McToran aren’t the most poseable models...
ONU-Koro the village of earth from the Mata Nui Online game in pixel art!
Am I the only one who overthinks the state of workers in Onu-Koro? Like, I can’t shake the feeling they’re being treated poorly. You’ve got a tiny elite, embodied by Onepu (remember how he convinced Taipu to do his work for him? yet he’s still the Turaga’s right hand?), living off the labors of the many miners who are forced to deal with terrible working conditions, including goddamn molten lava.
No wonder they had a strike.
