I will say a reason why Piffling Vale doesn't have to population crisis that is should due to all the deaths is that everyone on this island is unbelievably horny and are going at it like rabbits and that's why the population doesn't really change much but if Desmond wants to become a town they need some actual population GROWTH instead of this trade off for every baby born someone must die.
