he should wonder why the man is around every corner he turns in places like these - quiet, someplace like nowhere, an in-between that he’s been rooted to since thirteen. it is familiar now, maybe, dark eyes staring at him, the way something crawls under skin. he should know better, but still, he greets omari when he approaches him.

(knows, he has not given him any reason for trust. has poisoned and called it mercy. knows that fathers had said the same about love, before altars, before boys in the snow - mercy, taken on the knees. from a place of a loving)

(says, he’s not dead yet. and if he was, if he did - he might even thank omari for it)

“before, i didn’t understand why everyone tried to run once they got to paris.” said, half hummed, eyes slowly pulling away from a sculpture to meet the other’s. “i think i can get it now. someplace like this, you could run forever and feel alright. i - i could almost feel like i don’t have to hide.”

he blinks up at omari, smiles softly. “it’ll be a shame to leave, don’t you think? it was lovely, being art for the first time.”
