Things that go Bump in the Night: Harry & Kai
It was late, Kai was sore, and more than a little bruised, but not dissatisfied in the slightest - quite the opposite, in fact. He was delightedly sore, and...well, the bruises were cool, too - like mementos, almost.
It was also about two in the morning. A lot of people might have thought twice about wandering the streets at that time, but Kai had parked a ways away. He zipped up his leather motorcycle jacket against the night wind, slipped his hands into the pockets of his jeans, and strolled along quite cheerily.
There weren’t many other people on the sidewalks, and those he saw were either drunk, sleeping, or quickly ducked away when spotted. Five or ten years ago, he might’ve felt a little more worried, but between magic and just the general sense of not really caring that city life brought, Kai was pretty pleased with it all.
That is, of course, until he rounded a corner and bumped into something unexpected - somebody unexpected - and fell back flat onto his ass on the pavement with a bit of a startled shout. Hands in his pockets did little to stop his fall, but he pulled them free to sit up a little, looking up to see what exactly had happened.
Huh, tall. That was the first thought that sprung to mind, and Kai doubted it was just because of his sitting position, but he quickly started to push himself upright. “Heh, uh, sorry - didn’t mean to run into you, didn’t see you there. Guess I didn’t expect too many people to be out on the streets - you alright?”
