i'm gonna get stoned in the town square for this but helena eagan. i've talked about this in dms with sooooooo many of my mutuals but, as someone that loves helena, it really frustrates me that people flatten her character to the extremes or excuse her behavior. like she is NOT just a poor, helpless, powerless little girl AND she's not just a manipulative, evil heiress. she is both and she is neither. "she raped mark but-" but what??? i enjoy digging into why she did what she did, but ultimately what she did was inexcusable to me. some might say unforgivable, and i wouldn't argue with them! i think she lacks a very real amount of autonomy and i think she's gone through a deplorable amount of abuse in her lifetime, and i also think she still has power that she has used to hurt people intentionally. anyway, it's boring to make her one dimensional in the first place. the reason why i love her is her complexity and it's weird to take that complexity away from her because you claim to love her too
