Top 5 Touhou installments?
5. Yousei Daisensou ~ Touhou Sangetsusei (Great Fairy Wars). This is mostly me speaking purely from a game mechanic perspective. It really is a more unique danmaku game. I still haven’t quite found a game that made me think about how I want to clear bullets as a core part of the game.
4. Touhou Chireiden ~ Subterranean Animism; Somewhat on gameplay somewhat on story. The partner system I think is a bit more appealing than the partner system in Imperishable Night. Always felt like each character gives different insight. ReimuB’s story is fun when you get to Yuugi. ReimuC when you get to Okuu and Aya’s just blatantly excited. I think it’s also where Patchouli mentioned off hand Parsee being a foreigner. Also I enjoyed learning the tidbit about Alice putting gunpowder in her dolls. I always thought this was formally speaking, the hardest Touhou game in the sense of you can’t really control the flow of resources. Life pieces will only drop so long as you don’t lose a life (bombing is okay).
3. Touhou Shinreibyou ~ Ten Desires: This is purely me favoring the good + parallel ending. Youmu with a beard will forever be one of my favorite things from that game.
2. Touhou Hyouibana ~ The Antinomy of Common Flowers; Again the partner system I think was a lot of fun. The dream world I think also gave more insight than what we normally have gotten. Also because I want an excuse to bring it up, whatever did happen to that orange Miko had since like ULiL?
1. Touhou Gumon Kuju ~ Symposium of Post-Mysticism; What can I say? I really love the symposium format. It’s a nice break from reading assorted articles and I think honestly; it’s just a lot of fun to have characters sit around and dunk talk about anything.
