Now picture that the day he ‘betrays’ Misaki is the day he stops writing in the diary. 

Picture Saruhiko trusting that Misaki would return to their apartment and leaving the diary there to make sure that even if he had died, Misaki would know his true feelings and have something to remember him by.

Now picture their reunion with 103343% more tears and pain with the both of them just sobbing as Misaki carries Saruhiko.
