I didn’t mind doing community service for the school, really, I’m not sure if this should be a punishment. I mean think about how backwards that is? You did something wrong, so do something nice for your school. It makes it so doing good deeds, becomes a punishment and people can begin to associate it with negative feelings. So as I watch my classmates complain and groan in protest of their punishment, I was smiling and taking pride in my work. There was no reason to be grumpy.
Currently I was scrubbing the floors using muggle techniques. It really made you appreciate how hard muggles had to work to keep a house. It made you wonder why the magical world even had stay-at-home mothers, because you could literally finish all your chores in minutes if magic was allowed. Even cooking can be aided with magic, making it easier to do many things at once. It really put things in perspective that wizards had it easier in some respects.
It seemed as if everyone was coasting, because of all the changes that had occurred. We were now getting in trouble for things they probably should have been getting in trouble for all along. Yet we resented this fact, because it was different, it was something we were not used to, being enforced by people we didn’t know if we could trust. Though I often feel like by behaving this way the only thing we are really doing is destroying ourselves. Something the youth was fairly good at.
It was odd hearing the talk about Sundim as people figured out what they thought about it. Most people seemed to have a hard time separating the violent attacks from the philosophy as a whole. On some level, I didn’t blame them, but on the other level I really hoped they would soon understand it.
Life in the castle was strange, and something had to give. Otherwise I am liable to go insane. Oh fuck, apparently I’m doing this too slow. I’m going to concentrate now instead of having a conversation in my head.
As of right now Amelia is heading to Cambridge to get a degree in History, so she can write books about historical events and also become a college professor. If for some reason her opportunities were taken away or something changed in her life I think she would become a travel writer. Amelia is the product of two parents who were constantly on the move, travel is in her blood, and any career she chased would have to have some element of travel. Another thing about Amelia is that she loves to write and if she is not writing academic literature, then I can see her writing about her travel experiences. She would write about the authentic countries as they are instead of the tourist attractions people see them as. She would also write about the various people she meets on her travels, making sure to showcase the essence of all the places she ends up staying.
Of course traveling writing can be less than lucrative at times, so she would get odd jobs to make sure she could stay afloat as she went to country after country.
As long as Amelia has a chance to travel, stimulated intellectually, and has a bit of adventure in her life then she will have considered herself lucky to live a great life.
I set Newt more in 1800s England (right before or during the Victorian Era, depending), for several reasons. I think that he would be amazing at manipulating his way up the social ladder, and while he wouldn’t like to do what he was told, I think that his personality is much like the men I often see of that time period. Sherlock Holmes, Mr. Darcy, Mr. Rochester... All seem rather cold, bitterly intelligent, sometimes highly sarcastic men who have a downfall for seeing themselves as better than others and are held high in society regardless of their domineering demeanor.
