GRYFFINDOR: “Chin up, shoulders straight. If you want them to see you as a fellow soldier again, you act like one. You don’t back down from mech fire, so you won’t back down from this.” –Claudia Gray (Noemi Vidal: Defy the Worlds)
“I guess that’s the part that I need to deal with,” he admitted. He looked over at her. “Thanks. I mean, for saying something honest.”
Amelia nodded her head at him. “No problem, I’m just glad you saw that my honesty was coming from a good place. Ultimately, I hope you get all that you want.”
“Who is going to threaten me when I leave here?”
“Me, always, you fucker.”
After graduation Amelia traveled around Europe for a couple of weeks before settling herself at Cambridge. She found that she loved the world of academia, but she also felt that they did things incredibly wrong, especially in terms of making the research being done at the University level accessible to everyone. It became a passion of hers to correct this injustice as she began to make decisions for her future.
Once she earned her undergraduate degree she became engaged to Newt, who she eventually married. She also earned her Master’s and her Doctorate in History at Cambridge before taking on a position as lecturer. Eventually she became the head of the History Department at Cambridge University where she began to complete her vision of transforming the world of academics. She also authored many books both in the muggle and magic world about various historical topics.
Despite her professional achievements being a mother and a wife would always be her top accomplishment. Newt and Amelia had two kids Luke and Mia, both of whom, Amelia homeschooled until they both went off to Hogwarts to become their own people. She is incredibly proud of her kids and her husband.
“I’m probably supposed to argue and tell you that there’s nothing more important than my family and what they think. But sometimes… there is.”
“I agree, sometimes there is. And just because you choose you for a little while doesn’t mean that you don’t think your family is important.”
“Until the day you die,” Luka said, nodding his head. “Maybe that’s the point we’re all supposed to go, if you believe people all go at the right time. Once we finally become who we’re meant to be… that’s all we’re needed for.”
“I guess that’s one way to look at it.” Amelia nodded her head, not disagreeing with Luka.
[End of the Year]
Justine smiled, “I’m excited too, its just knowing there’s a blank page out there that finally gets to be written on.” She said as she thought about it, “I mean I find that exciting.”
“It’s very exciting,” Amelia said. “We’ll be fine.”
“I’m going to miss your sarcastic nature,” Cade said with a smile. “Promise to take care of yourself and Newt at Cambridge.”
“You know we’ll visit you all the time, right? So none of this sad talk. I will throw something at you if I need to.”
“So is there not a point where you can no longer be changed?” he asked. “We just keep being shaped until the day we die, and then that’s the shape that we are forever?”
“Well, that sounds incredibly morbid, but yes I think that’s how it works. I don’t think I have learned all I need to learn yet, so I imagine I’ll continued to change until then.”
[End of the Year]
“Which is completely understandable. And I’m glad that we’re able to forget even if its just for a little, maybe it’ll remind us that soon it will get better.”
“Maybe, things are getting better already in some ways. I’m excited about getting ready for school and doing some traveling before getting serious minded.”
Aidan let her go on her rant, but he shook his head and knew that she wasn’t thinking right. Some people liked to be of the opinion that everyone changed. And it just wasn’t the case. “You underestimate my family,” he told her seriously.
“Maybe... leave your family and do it somewhere else, so you can go back to them proving that what they thought was obviously wrong.”
“And that’s only in seven years,” he said. “Do we change just as much in the next seven years? Or is it just turning into adults that has changed us?”
“I think we will dramatically change all our lives, because things will inevitably happen to us both good and bad that will help shape us. I mean that’s essentially what happened to us, right?”
Aidan looked back at her, nodding in time with her to show he was on the same page. “I know,” he said. “I agree with you. Unfortunately other people don’t. I can try as hard as I can, but I won’t be the same as I was, and people don’t see that different is okay.”
“I’m glad you agree with me, because that helps get things going,” Amelia said gently. “The thing is though. Different is beautiful, in my personal opinion. I tend to surround myself with different, because it’s the only way I can grow. So I get that you think you can’t change minds, but I think you can, because I don’t know how you could ignore someone who was injured, yet so dedicated to his craft that he would work his ass off for it. So work your ass off for it and give it a go, because I think you can do it. And this is coming from someone who got into a massive fight with you and has no obligation to say this to you.”
“I’ve heard that was punishable by six months in Azkaban.”
“You’re such a badass.”
[End of the Year]
“It’s good for everyone. I like seeing so many smiling faces.” Justine said with a smile.
“Me too,” Amelia said with a nod. “People want to forget for a little while.”
Luka listened to her as she explained how she had changed. “Maybe,” he said. “But in the same regard, you know that you’re better now, so would you even care about what younger you thought?”
“I am a lot better now, yes. And no I don’t care about my younger self’s thoughts on me. It’s just strange how you can go from one extreme to something new.”
[End of the Year]
Justine smiled as she watched everyone dancing, the light hearted atmosphere seeming to bring everyone up which she was grateful for. “You looked great out there!” She laughed as she saw a friend emerge from one of the dancing crowds.
“Well, thank you.” She smiled at Justine as she approached her. “It was fun to let loose.”
