From 822: I’ve seen a few posts saying they didn’t like how the Strawhats were splitting up again, but here’s the thing: The Strawhats split up in just about every arc. 

Baratie: Luffy and Sanji stay to protect the restaurant, Zoro and Usopp go off to find Nami, they’re not reunited until Usopp returns from his fake death 

Loguetown: Everyone splits up to do their own shopping 

Whiskey Peak: Not sure if this counts but Zoro, Luffy, and Nami ended up having very different goals upon waking up/getting up, and wandered in different directions until they had to talk to Vivi 

Little Garden: Everyone goes off in their own little groups, and they’re not in the same place again until the wax cake shenanigans (and Sanji’s still not there until Mr. 3′s gone) 

Drum Island: Zoro does his own thing, Luffy and Sanji are in charge of Nami, Vivi and Usopp search for the doctor through the towns 

Alabasta: Everyone splits up at Alubarna to help out Vivi and beat the Baroque Works agents, and then they split up again to find the bomb 

Jaya: Luffy, Zoro, and Nami go to the pub, Robin goes to find information elsewhere, and the other three stay on the ship 

Skypiea: The details of this arc are a little fuzzy in my head, but I know the Strawhats split up several times---Luffy, Usopp, and Sanji end up doing the Ball Trial, Chopper’s guarding the ship, Robin, Zoro, and Nami explore the jungle . . . they meet up again for the bonfire party with the wolves, and split up again in the morning, meeting up again during/after Luffy’s fight with Eneru. 

Water 7 and Enies Lobby: Not counting the temporary departures of Usopp and Robin, we’ve got Luffy, Nami, and Usopp going off to talk to the carpenters, Zoro staying on the ship, and Chopper and Sanji shopping. Later, Sanji, Usopp, and Franky (though he’s not part of the crew yet) end up on Puffing Tom together, while the others take Rocketman behind them. On Enies Lobby, everyone splits up to fight CP9 and reunites outside later. 

Thriller Bark: Nami, Usopp, and Chopper end up on the island, and the others dock to look for them. Later, Sanji goes to find Nami, Robin and Chopper go off elsewhere, Zoro and Franky charge off to find Brook(’s shadow), and Luffy looks for Moria. 

Basically, it’s kind of rare to see every Strawhat together unless it’s an unusual situation, the beginning or end of an arc, or they’re out at sea. Splitting up is a pretty common thing within the series, and it makes sense---most of the islands they reach aren’t very small, and they have a lot of ground to cover. 

It’s perfectly reasonable for them to split up from Zou. Each team’s destination is connected to the Strawhats somehow, whether it be Luffy’s promise to help Wano or Sanji in need of help.
