I’m a bit conflicted on shipcourse. i hate the toxic shit that ‘antis’ do and don’t want to be one but I really don’t want to be an ‘anti-anti’ either. I don’t trust blogs who say fictional pedophilia and incest are okay. I can get cope shipping, but I still think thats harmful. fiction isnt reality but it can influence it. it feels like those ships try to normalize that shit and even though theyre toxic, antis have a point. if an adult gets hot for a fictional child, they’re still a pedophile.
Yeah, I wouldn’t agree with encouraging people to write/draw fictional pedophilia and incest (and by that I mean actual pedophilia and incest, not 3 year age gaps and childhood friends that antis accuse of being those things).
I just… personally I think antis are worse than anti-antis. I have some issues with anti-antis too. Some are rude and should be more understanding that certain things make people uncomfortable and respect that fact. Some are a little concerning when they encourage Actual Problematic things, it’s like they’re too lenient.
But I don’t agree with the way antis go about things either. Ex: like how you wrote “if an adult gets hot for a fictional child, they’re a pedophile.” I agree with that, if that child is an actual child-looking prepubescent 11 year old. But I’ve seen antis go after people for having crushes on muscular anime guys who are 17 but drawn to look like they’re 20-something and voiced by 30 year old actors with deep-ass voices. Antis constantly misuse terms like “pedophilia,” accuse people of being pedophiles when they’re not, which completely diminishes the severity of those words. And they aren’t doing anyone any favors with this alarm fatigue that they’ve created.
Antis’ original intentions may be from a good place, but the way they go about things is toxic. The harassment, the threats. They seem to create mindless fear (”every one who likes this ship is a (bad thing)” instead of educating people on creepy/abusive behaviors to look out for. They really go overboard with some stuff. I’ve seen an anti accuse an artist of “romanticizing pedophilia” because the artist drew a cute comic of 18 year old and 15 year old anime characters on a date to the zoo. The things antis accuse of being bad aren’t bad at all 9 times out of 10, and it’s honestly frustrating. Antis are so black and white with their thinking. They just seem unreasonable, with them shooting down “aging up” which is simply just a future AU/epilogue, despite the fact that it happens in canon all the time. There are actual shows/books who age up their characters so they can be married and have kids (Avatar, HP), yet when a fan writes/draws the exact same thing for their fandom/ship (making a minor character older so they’re an adult), they’re a pedo? Antis are hypocrites and it’s infuriating. I could write a whole other paragraph venting my complaints about antis but I’ll shut up now lol
