In Buddhist belief, an Opapatika is born of “transformation” as opposed to being born in one of the three organic ways such as from an egg, womb or moisture.
Opapatika (meaing accidental or spontaneous) would be reincarnated or born as a supernatural entity such as a god or demon.
Those with bad karma (or bad merit) or those who committed suicide may be born of transformation into a ghost or demon. Those with good merit could be born as gods.
Sometimes this is not taken literally, but spiritually, in the way that a person’s state of mind can birth ghosts and demons. For example if a person suffers from moments of stress or anxiety, a ghost may be released into the earthly world. On the other hand, if a person displays an act of kindness or positive thoughts, a god can be released into the Earthly world.
