Open Shot video editing - first impressions.
When I forced to upgrade to a newer Mac OS so I could pair my music on my MacBook with my iPhone, I permanently lost access to the old version of Apple iMovie, the program I used to edit all my YouTube videos.
Instead I was forced to try and use the “new and improved” version of iMovie that I had no idea how to use after watching multiple tutorial videos.
The original iMovie interface required no explanation or training, I was just instantly editing videos for the first time in my life with a significant amount of complexity.
Then some engineers at Apple decided to make a new version of iMovie that was less obvious and intuitive, but I guess was more efficient, once you learned to use it.
That’s the thing I hate about modern Apple, they don’t make products for the way the world is, they made products for the way they think the world should be and demand you to conform.
Anyway, after abandoning Mac for various Linux boxes, and now a Windows 10 machine, I only weeks ago discovered OpenShot, I’m still learning it, but I’m blown away with the results, the interface is that simple, impossible to misunderstand interface that iMovie used to have, but it has features I wouldn’t have dared to expect from a free program like this.
Last night I edited together one of the most complex videos I’ve ever made, and I’m really thrilled with the results.
Some things I’m still learning or getting used to, a few nitpicky things I believe iMovie HD did better, but I’m loving this.
Free software is awesome.
