The tryouts will consist of the 40-yard dash, short shuttle, broad jump, individual drills, and 1 on 1’s. The workouts will be conducted on artificial turf fields, so participants are encouraged to wear cleats. Kickers ARE included in the open tryout.
Head Coach Dean Cokinos will conduct the workouts and evaluate the players.
“We had great success at our first open tryout in New Orleans,” said Head Coach Cokinos. “We will invite several of the attending players from that tryout back for our training camp in 2015. As this is a rebuilding situation, we are expanding our search. Historically, Birmingham and Nashville and their surrounding areas have produced some quality football players. I have used the D1 facilities on multiple occasions over the years, and we have always found players at those tryouts that were able to come in and contribute to our teams. I am looking forward to these two upcoming workouts.”
Prospective players can pre-register for the open tryout and may do so by downloading the tryout application and sending the completed forms to the VooDoo Football Operations Department via fax, at (318) - 224 - 2771, or via email to [email protected]. The registration form is available for download at www.aflvoodoo.com on the Home Page.

Seattle Reign FC 15 minutes ago · Here's a quick update on our plans for next week: - Each team was allowed to identify up to four "Discovery Players" with whom the team would have the exclusive right to negotiate a contract (lists were due from each team by end-of-day today). It's all a bit more complicated than that, but the point is that we'll be talking to a few players next week and if all goes well we may have an additional signing or two to announce. - We'll announce exact dates and times for open tryouts by the end of next week. - You should expect to see the full league schedule sometime next week. - We're running a bit behind, but you will see an updated website early next week. It will be a small step towards a more comprehensive site that will launch prior to the regular season. - Laura Harvey will officially make her move to Seattle next week. Our phone bill should be much cheaper moving forward... - And finally, we'll share our plans for the pre-season, which will begin on March 11.
Back to Business
The paleo challenge is back, with a little hiatus last weekend going to Vermont and celebrating my birthday. I’m renewed and back though and feeling wonderful all over again. I have to say, one of the worst nights was going out to a Thai place for lunch with my bosses to celebrate and my stomach did NOT agree with my meal whatsoever. Painful, to say the least. I think I definitely learned my lesson that night; since then my digestion is back to normal after returning to Paleo living on Tuesday. Once again I’m back to being starving ALL the time, that’s one of the things that gets me. I’m constantly looking for something healthy to snack on and since I can’t always find something being in the back office now, I’m filled with water and tea until lunchtime.
I made a great meal on Tuesday following my Birthday WOD. It was pretty brutal, but I enjoyed it a lot. Tabata HSPU, Wall Balls, Kettlebell Swings, and Pull Ups. By the time I got to the pull ups I was dying a bit, but I survived through it. Since my hip/knee aren’t quite right at the moment, I rowed 1600m afterwards while everyone else ran the mile instead. Using my new Ninja cooking machine, I made Spicy Ginger Lime Chicken. Oh my goodness, boyfriend described it as orgasmic. I gotta say, I love when I do things right. It’s definitely been yummy leftovers, I love it. The recipe will be posted later since it’s at home and right now I’m not. I know there’s been a lack of recipes lately, but it’s just been so busy between home and work that I haven’t gotten the time to transcribe anything. I’m on it, I swear!
Yesterday we did the WOD at home because we didn’t feel like leaving the house for some reason and I just picked up the bar and started going. No biggie.
Warm Up: 50 Air Squats 50 Hand Release Pushups
WOD:
2 rounds: 6 Clean and Jerks (65#) & 6 HSPU 2 rounds: 6 Power Cleans & 24 Dips 2 rounds: 6 Power Cleans & 24 Hand Release Pushups
Cool Down: 50 Bicycle Crunches 50 Sit Ups
I’m sore and it feels wonderful. Because of that I got up this morning and went to vinyasa flow yoga at 6am, which made me awfully productive and awake today. I did some light food shopping afterwards, made my breakfast and lunch, took a shower, and got ready for work. Who knew that waking up early would actually give you the time to get things done? Tonight’s the first Competitors class at the box, it’s a 12 week program that hopefully will be useful. This leads right up to the CrossFit Open Tryouts, so I’m getting myself geared up!
