Evan's fully written biography is currently AVAILABLE.
High school was rough for Evan. The picture they paint about the drama kids getting bullied at the hands of the jocks isn’t all true - not for the lead roles... But he wasn’t a lead role. There were a handful of kids that really shined in his class and somehow managed to do what they did so well that the rest of the school applauded them. He just wasn’t one of them.
Swaying in the background and singing in the chorus was all the stardom Evan could ever get his hands on during their school productions, meaning that ‘domestic fame’ that the leading roles had as armor... Did not apply to him. The bullying was rough but he just counts himself lucky that the drama group he hung out with treated each other like family, meaning he was protected from the assholes at school just as long as he wasn’t caught alone.
The thing is that he never was a natural-born leader, but he wasn’t going to let that stunt him! Evan Renton is a damn hard worker and a damn good performer, and he’s long since accepted that, if he wants to fill the shoes of his Broadway idols, he needs to follow the footsteps of his true hero: Jonah Dean.
Jonah says Evan needs to understand his ability. He says that Evan needs to know his limits and not be too optimistic; take the small roles that he can get and avoid punching too high at risk of disappointment... However, all that really gets him is performances at kids’ birthday parties three times a week, doing magic or singing children’s songs. Evan’s followed every single one of Jonah’s tidbits of advice, though. He’s followed him right out of high school and into adulthood, to some of his biggest shows, carrying his costumes or pulling his suitcase full of... Well, he’s not really sure what’s in there: they never let him hang around backstage for long enough to find out.
Evan hasn’t told a soul yet, but he did something a little scandalous just recently. Jonah had been talking about this part that he was trying for - not his biggest role but nothing to look down your nose at - and well, Evan didn’t really think it through at the time. He just looked up the part and, before he knew it, he was stood before a panel as he auditioned for the role. It could have been worse for his relationship with Jonah: he could have gotten the part, but he didn’t. Rumor has it that he got a little further through the audition process than his mentor, though... Maybe Jonah is wrong. Maybe Evan’s more ready for stardom than they both thought.

Relationships:
Jonah Dean - One of Evan’s favorite phrases is ‘Jonah says.’ He’s so blinded by the man’s unwavering success and so-called-unquestionable generosity that he’s still not caught onto the fact that perhaps the man sees him as competition. What Evan doesn’t know (but Jonah surely does) is that, in the time he’s been running around chasing his mentor, Evan has missed hundreds of opportunities for roles he’d have been perfect for.
