John Watson, ex-army medic, thought he couldn't find a flatmate until someone pointed him in the direction of Sherlock Holmes. The two soon became firm friends; he solved cases, John blogged them. It worked, though they got some weird visitors and John occasionally lost track of was going on. He was just flipping open his newspaper when his paper butterfly fell out, though it was soon in the recycling along with the paper itself.

Sherlock Holmes was an odd child from the start, always interested in puzzles and solving things. He learned too quickly for most to cope with, became too cold and narcissistic for most to cope with; thinking himself above everyone to the point of inventing his own job. The worlds only consulting detective, better than anyone, except perhaps his only real friend, John Watson. He didn't look past the fact he received a butterfly instead of a note from his little homeless network. In fact, he analysed it for day, weeks, obsessing over it completely, until he found no answer and started on a new case, though it never quite left the back of his mind. Waking up on the bookshelf in a library, Sherlock Holmes found himself entangled in the best case yet- and the most thrilling game.

From childhood, Dean was raised into hunting by his  obsessed father, raised to be a soldier. He never chose the life, but he certainly didn't mind it; a way to blow off steam was always a good thing, right? He practically took charge over raising his brother, became protective of him, and missed him when he went to college (though he'd never mention it). That's when he started to fall on the drink, after particularly bad hunts or just when he felt bad. He got his brother back, started laying off of the beer a bit more, hunted, and died more than his fair share of times, and it was all just difficult. It got to the point where, when he was handed a paper butterfly crafted out of his fuel tab when he was filling up the Impala to head up north for a hunt, he simply tossed it over his shoulder without a second glance. Next morning, he woke up lying in the middle of an empty park, surrounded by the metropolis of a lifeless city.
