May 4, 2016 -The Gay Head lighthouse, 175' tall, and built in 1856, was slowly moved on girders 134' to this new spot to save it from falling into the sea. It had just arrived at this spot within a couple of days when I took this shot, so a lot of work was left to be done at this point, but the most harrowing part of the move was over.

It was a huge undertaking to do this. If anyone out there is interested, Nova will be airing a documentary- Operation Lighthouse Rescue - on this historic move at 9pm EST tonight on PBS, and will reveal some of the history of this area, and of this lighthouse. -pic taken last May 31, 2015.
