“Rescue from Manatugo Point” and “Operation: Digout” are some top-notch episodes. It’s not even just that it’s Whit’s past (though that aspect alone is awesome), they’re just really good stories with some great character dynamics, and of course, great writing.
I’m starting to think I like the trope of “Friends Promising To Meet Again When They’re Young And Fulfilling It When They’re Old”. I mean, I love friendships in general, but I just realized this trope has popped up a couple times in stories I like.
It’s happened at least twice in Odyssey—Agnes and Jo in “The Pact” (which is a very wonderful episode, by the way, that I heard for the first time last month), and Whit and Reginald Duffield in “Operation: Digout”. And of course, it’s often coupled with the trope of “Old Friends Reunited Share The Impact That The Other Had On Their Life”, which is also a great one.
Ahh, it’s just very satisfying.
