oppa: hi how are you what are you doing can i call you
me: ya but i cant talk for that long im explaining a movie to my mom
oppa: okay call me when you have more time
me: ok
mom: *falls asleep in the middle of movie*
me: well she fell asleep
me: do you still want to talk
oppa: what is this question
oppa: we are friends
I told oppa I am pansexual today
Bc I asked him if gay marriage was legal in Korea (no)
He said it's kind of a new thing for him bc he doesn't have any gay friends
And he asked if I did
BRIANAH I TALKED ABOUT YOU AND HOW WE SPAZ OVER TAEMIN TOGETHER
Oppa giggled, and wondered if it was possible for a homosexual person to like the opposite sex
I never know what to do when confronted with questions like that, because they're so complicated to answer, and I also realized how FUCKING MANY LGBTQ WORDS THERE ARE
and korean doesn't have words for most of them
so I tried my best
and didn't do very well
BUT I TOLD HIM I WAS HALF GAY (shoulda said 1/3) and he laughed and asked how and appears not to be harboring any newfound hostility toward me
But yeah, I'm pretty sure the concept of there being more than 2 genders was new to him so it was probably weird to talk about, especially in English. Like how do you say something like "gender identity doesn't matter" and expect the listener to just KNOW what all of that means? (you don't)
But yeah, he said there's a transsexual actress (I think) in Korea and he used the correct pronoun (she), which is pretty awesome, esp since in my experience people whose first languages don't have gender pronouns have difficulty with them
And then we started talking about androgyny
I don't think we got very far because there isn't really a word for it in Korean (the closest I think was 남녀 구별이 없는 which I think means something along the lines of 'could be male or female') but he lol'd that all my friends' first impressions of Taemin are "that's a female"
He says Taemin looks pretty boyish to Koreans, though, and I find that kind of interesting. It seems that a lot of westerners aren't as sensitive to androgynous appearances? Or at least the people I've talked to.
Also he said he thinks Key is really funny on WGM and I told him I'm 90% sure he's gay and he lol'd.
Yup, then we talked about chuseok and thanksgiving and how much the British sucked and stole things from the Native Americans and then we got disconnected and I told him to sleep bc his voice was all sleepy
Idk
I just
Oppa is a lovely human. Thank you for existing oppa.
