Did you really have to uncritically reblog that post by murderathogwarts? People have a right to not associate with people who make oppressive statements. There's nothing wrong with that.
Of course there’s nothing wrong with that.
But if everyone in the world didn’t associate with those who make oppressive statements, well, everyone in the world would be a hermit.
The point of the post isn’t that people should always hang around those who constantly make oppressive statements. The point of the post is saying that many people do not realize what they are saying is offensive. It takes patience and lots of education in order to make that change.
A quote from her post:
"Look. I am by no means justifying saying things like this. I already said that. And I recognize the difference between making a mistake and intentionally saying something hurtful and offensive.”
Four years ago, I was making oppressive statements. Hell, this time last year I was making oppressive statements. But because people took the time to educate me, I realized my words were wrong and that I needed to fix it.
I found no reason to criticize that post; she made her disclaimer in the beginning and then restated it again at the end. Nowhere in her post did she say people are required to associate with others who speak oppressively.
There is nothing wrong with educating others in a patient manner.
