I’m stoked to be having a show of some of my Widelux photography next week, and through the end of the year! I printed these optically in a darkroom, with no digital adjustments or interference. I like to think there’s an imperfect beauty to them; I also like to think that at roughly 40x20 inches, there’s lots to get lost in in them! There will be an opening shindig Friday the 9th in the late afternoon/evening, and they will be up for about a month and a half at Bar Francis in Olympia, Washington. It’s a coffee shop, open 8-5 seven days a week. If you’re in the area, stop by and take a peek!

Aesthetically speaking, there is something I deeply love about solid-colored text overlayed on an image without any sort of a border or shadow around it. I especially like white and yellow text, but other colors work too. Just something where this thing that had to have been added later somehow feels like it is simply a part of the image, not something layered on top of it.

Film-Makers' Cooperative 475 Park Ave South, 6th Floor (at 32nd St) New York, NY 10016 The optical printer is an amalgam of 16mm camera and projector, used for re-photographing existing footage one frame at a time, allowing experimentation with the film image in basic ways to more advanced techniques and effects. We will explore the techniques of optical printing through hands-on experiments shot on 16mm and viewed in the screening room at the start the subsequent session. The workshop will include viewing pertinent works from The Film-Makers’ Cooperative’s collection, projected on 16mm film. The workshop will also cover programming the optical printer sequencer, shooting cinex tests, the use of frame handles in printing, various types of intermediate printing elements. My vision finally came! I finally know exactly the film I want to make as my final project for Optical Printing. I'm so glad because I was so worried that I would never be able to come up with anything and it was staring me right in the face all along. We watched Pat O'Neill's Water and Power in class today and about mid-way through the film a spark went off and I could not stop writing. It's kinda strange because that film doesn't really have anything to do with what my idea became, though it is optically printed. For what it's worth, thanks Pat O'Neill!!!!
