I have been lucky to shoot some of the world's biggest female pop stars, they always leave me in awe… CASE #12 ~ Beth Gibbons of Portishead. I have to say, so many of the opportunities to work these amazing artists came from Sioux Zimmerman of Formula PR ( Now Magnum) and Scott Becker of Option magazine. There are other people out there but these two opened so many doors for me, but these two opened the big double doors. THANK YOU. Shooting Portishead for the first of many times was a magical experience. The session was in the front vestibule garden of Bellevue mental hospital in NYC. We just walked in, no permission, the patients yelling at us from the barred windows above. Beth is wearing my mum’s black wool coat. My lovely mum, Joan was in town to visit and I dragged her along to see me work. I didn’t think what Beth was wearing worked with the gothic nature we were infront of and me being the pushy photo dork asked / made her wear it my mums coat... This is the first time Beth and Geoff did a shoot in the US, Geoff never did shoots after this. So this is a rare image of them together..Blame me I guess. I shot them four more times, well just Beth, even went to Bristol and did a session at her mom's farm. I listen to live at Roseland constantly. Love Portishhead.
