Aesthetic studyblr ≠ studying
((tldr; pretty notes and branded items is not equivalent to studying effectively.))
Fresh, coming from somebody with a url that’s actually aesthetic-studyblr, so I’m like one of the last people to say anything but I’m gonna.
There is an underlying issue within the studyblr community that the best kind of studying comes from pretty notes and gorgeous layouts, and beautiful cafes. The best kind of studying comes from muji pens, thick creamy paper, macbook pros, ipads, and branded stationary. Only the best studying can be done with the best supplies. Right?
Of course not, and it’s not like anybody outright says this out loud. But just look at the popular #studyblr tags and that’s what you’re most likely going to find.
And let me make myself clear: there is nothing wrong with wanting an aesthetic to studying. My main point is that you don’t need aesthetics to study, especially when posting onto tumblr.
The point of this post is to name the common classism issue with the community, and to reassure other studyblrs that it is an issue and that it’s okay to not conform to those standards. I know when I first joined that I fell into those trains of thought that hey, my notes need to look pretty to be studyblr worthy.
but that doesn’t help me study.
messy, cramped, ugly handwriting helps me study, with random arrows pointing out extra info and triple underlines to emphasize the professor’s own vocal emphasis.
in short, studying ≠ pretty notes. studying=whatever the hell helps you remember the crap that you need to remember, which can include pretty notes or brand items but is not necessary (you can absolutely use dollar tree stuff, or used stuff, all that matters is that you are learning and getting the quality of education you can attain within your power ).
So yeah, rant over. Add anything if you want, which includes disagreements. Criticism is always welcome!
