The difference between men and women
There have been two very opposing schools of thought that have been touted throughout society that I have come to know. It has always been very difficult for me to decide which one will be more true because I always find examples in my friends and acquaintances for both sides. It is about the differences in the male and female capacity to feel emotion.
It has been for the longest time told to me by my girlfriends in my younger years that men generally just don't feel that much. They can seem soulless and/or heartless at times but this isn't because they are mean or evil in anyway, it's just because they don't feel the same emotions that women do, so we should try to take this into account before misunderstanding their motives/overanalysing things they say
Men actually do feel just as much as women and more but because society has decided that this natural occurrence is feminine or unmanly, they don't feel as comfortable expressing their insecurities and vulnerabilities to others which probably makes them more insecure and vulnerable to hurt when they do. This is probably why sometimes, my girlfriends can't understand what they do or never know the motives behind certain actions
I know that it seems like obviously the second must be the truer of the two because men are people made of cells and DNA and whatnot just like women are and society dictates basically everything that we do anyway so why wouldn't it be true? But there are times when I have been in conversation with my male friends where they fail to understand what I would define as a perfectly natural reaction to an emotional situation. And at times they can be more callous than I know my female friends might be in regards to how they treat their friends or partners etc.
Obviously this isn't to say all women are blubbering their way through emotional rollercoasters day in day out. Nor is it to say that men are stoic stone statues no matter what occurs in their lives.
I'm just wondering if there really is anything to the stereotypes that are placed upon both genders (and this is a genuine question for anyone who can shed some light to do so). Could it be more than what society has dictated is expected of men? Could it be wired into our genetics somehow so women think more or "feel" more? Or is there actually no real difference in how a woman or man would feel in an emotional situation, and does the manifestation of this emotion only come from the social norms people have ingrained in them?
Men of tumblr, I pose you these questions
Do you feel as much as your female counterparts do?
