You knit and like science, what's your take on the Hank Green Sci Show Knitting Controversy? I think it's overblown (crafters love drama) but I sew, not knit so maybe I'm missing out and I should actually be offended. Also full disclosure I am a Hank Green fan, me and my son watch his videos together a lot.

Note: I crochet, not knit, but I respect it

I hadn't seen anything about a controversy at all bc I curate my online experience pretty tightly to avoid that category. I'd watched the scishow video before. I just watched it again. Then looked up the controversy. Got three paragraphs into an article and about ten seconds into a couple of response videos before I worried that if I rolled my eyes that hard again I'd black out.

It's not a video about knitting. It's a video about engineers and physicists looking at knitting to figure it out so they can apply it other stuff. Narratively, to make that topic engaging for folks, you want the contrast to be more vivid. Oh look at this thing that you probably associate with grandma! Oh look at how it connects to modern science to make other cool stuff! Hey look, doesn't that make knitting cooler?!

Goal achieved. It's a sci show video about how science is inspired by what knitters do by instinct. It's not a video claiming to be a history of, explanation, or exaltation of knitting.

Also. Hank does not script the episodes. That'd be insane. Even if he didn't have 19 other projects, 6 companies, guest appearances on stuff, and a family, he still wouldn't script everything. That's not how this works.

Also Also. Scishow has to abbreviate and simplify lots of things. Everything, honestly. He simplified the damn science in that video. Cause they're youtube videos for general audiences. That one is ten minutes. That's gonna be, max 1200 words, probably less than 1000. I have lots of tumblr posts that are longer than that. Shit, this one is probably somewhere near 300. No matter how much folk bitch about needing to do a thousand word essay, that is barely enough time to do a middle school book report.

Crafters love drama. I get that. but please chill.
