No, Really.. Thanks Kev
I have just found out, to my horror, that as of the 25th of February 2015 Orange Wednesdays will be no more. Not that I can profess to be a frequent participant you understand, but I did really really like Orange Wednesdays because it was one of those offers that honestly didn't feel like it had any sneaky 'other' motive behind it - it actually seemed like it was genuinely actively encouraging us all to go watch films and eat pizza of a Wednesday night, and why not eh?
Having run for about 12 Years it was obviously a good deal for both Orange and it's customers, and as far as I'm aware there haven't been many (if any?) offers that have run for so long without radically changing... and Orange Wednesdays has pretty much stayed the same in principle since it's inception as far as I can see. They just don't make offers like they used to I guess.
We can only presume it was EE taking over Orange that put pay to the offer blaming a change in viewing habits and sites like Netflix and Amazon Prime replacing peoples need to actually venture out of their bedrooms and watch films in close proximity of 'other' people, who were spoiling our viewing pleasure by simply 'being there' I suppose!
So, thanks EE and the annoyingly annoying Kevin Bacon - who, let's not forget is only the face of EE because of his celebrity status gained from what? Oh yeah, making bloody FILMS in the first place (even if they were pretty shit). Pretty ironic if you think about it; Film star becomes face of organisation that puts an end to a load of people going to the movies once a week! I preferred you in Flatliners mate to be honest - you remember, the one where the rest of the cast persuade you to let them almost kill you but then promise to bring you back to life just before you die - wink, wink - (I'd have rewritten that bit slightly in hindsight but there you go)
And thanks EE for providing us with 4G, whatever the hell that is (I, for one, don't even know what a 'G' is in the first place, or indeed why I'd need 4 of the fuckers!) and for all that Fiber Optic Broadband nonsense which I'm sure is deadly important and not (as it first appeared to me) a bodge-jobbed eye surgery.
And so we bid adieu to L'orange Mercredi! Let's all just stay at home and watch Netflix, eat microwaved popcorn and press pause when we need a shit. And if, by any bizarre reason someone actually wants to talk to someone else about the films they watch in the privacy of their own homes, well you can always post your comments on facebook afterwards yeah - who needs human contact anyway?
Oh, and i'll miss the funny adverts for Orange Wednesday too! So, really, THANKS KEV
