Assalamualaikum, do you have any tips for younger people who'd like to teach English when they grow up?
Read a lot, write a lot and immerse yourself in the English subject while you're still in high school. That way your enthusiasm for it will shine through when you are teaching and pull your students in.
During your time in class, keep a notebook with you where you write down things you'd like to see different or things you think your teacher should do to make the class interesting - then apply those things or keep in mind those notes when you, yourself are a teacher.
Study very hard. Sometimes people think that because they are majoring in English it will be easy. Becoming a teacher in general is not easy, on top of that there is a lot of writing and reading involved. Set aside a good amount of time for studying.
Spend extra time with your own English teacher, ask them for pointers and advice that they'd give.
Never, ever lose your energy or excitement when it comes to teaching or English - if you do then your students will lose theirs as well.
Make up mock lesson plans and see yourself as a teacher before you actually become one. Being in front of a group of kids teaching them English (usually not a class people are excited about) is hard. You need to find ways to get used to having that spotlight on you and finding a way to make English interesting.
